Job Type: Contract
Duration: 1 year, with potential for extension
Location: Calgary or Fort McMurray, Alberta
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Work Environment: Office-based
Your New Company
Join a major organization delivering complex capital projects in Alberta. You’ll become part of an established Supply Chain team supporting procurement across significant project requirements, with the opportunity to work closely with engineering, operations and project stakeholders while delivering measurable value through strategic sourcing, commercial negotiations and effective supplier management.
Your New Role
As a Procurement Advisor, you will lead procurement activities for materials and services supporting capital projects, with an emphasis on mining and tailings-related work. You’ll manage competitive sourcing events, evaluate supplier proposals, negotiate commercial terms and oversee the purchase order life cycle. Working across project, engineering, operations and supplier teams, you’ll help ensure procurement requirements are delivered safely, commercially and in line with project schedules and budgets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead sourcing and procurement of materials and services for complex capital project requirements.
- Develop, issue and manage RFx events, evaluate proposals and prepare supplier award recommendations.
- Negotiate pricing, commercial terms and supply arrangements to deliver value and mitigate supply and commercial risk.
- Manage the purchase order lifecycle, including requisition review, PO creation, changes, expediting, issue resolution and closeout.
- Partner with project, engineering and operational stakeholders to develop practical procurement strategies aligned with schedules and business requirements.
- Monitor supplier performance, procurement KPIs and opportunities for cost reduction, value improvement and continuous improvement.
Must-Have Requirements
- 5–7 years of relevant procurement, sourcing, supply chain or combined commercial and technical experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading sourcing and procurement execution, including commercial negotiations.
- Hands-on experience managing RFx processes, supplier evaluations and procurement award recommendations.
- Strong knowledge of procurement processes, purchase order lifecycle management and supply risk mitigation.
- Strong commercial, financial and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex project environment.
- Proven ability to partner effectively with cross-functional project, technical, operational and supplier stakeholders.
- Bring your own device for working capabilities.
Nice-to-Have
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Supply Chain or a related discipline.
- Procurement experience supporting capital projects, particularly within mining, tailings, heavy industrial or similar environments.
- Experience with SAP, SAP Ariba, SAP Fieldglass, MyTrack and/or spend analytics tools.
What Success Looks Like
- Capital project materials and services are sourced competitively and delivered in alignment with project schedules and business requirements.
- Commercial negotiations produce measurable value while appropriately managing supplier, cost and delivery risk.
- Project stakeholders receive responsive, commercially sound procurement support from sourcing through PO closeout.
What You'll Get in Return
You’ll gain exposure to significant Alberta capital projects while working alongside experienced supply chain, engineering, operational and project professionals. This one-year contract offers the potential for extension and an opportunity to apply your commercial expertise in a complex environment where procurement decisions have a direct impact on project cost, schedule and performance.
