Payments Technical Project Manager
Contract Duration: 12 Months (Extension Expected)
Pay Rate/Salary: CAD $80/hr to $89/hr
Location: Hybrid | 1-2 Days Onsite | 150 King St. West, Toronto, ON
What You Need to Do
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex payments technology initiatives, ensuring successful execution from planning through implementation and post-production stabilization.
• Drive the delivery of strategic payment modernization programs with a strong focus on ISO 20022 migration, payment transformation, and capital markets payment infrastructure.
- Develop and manage project plans, timelines, milestones, dependencies, budgets, governance forums, and executive-level status reporting.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams including Business, Technology, Operations, Architecture, Risk, Compliance, Security, Testing, and third-party vendors.
- Partner with engineering and architecture teams to manage system integrations, APIs, payment gateways, messaging platforms, reconciliation solutions, and settlement processes.
- Lead technology initiatives supporting domestic, real-time, cross-border, and account-to-account payment capabilities.
- Ensure payment processing controls, fraud monitoring, sanctions screening, exception handling, payment investigations, repair workflows, and reconciliation requirements are incorporated into solution design.
- Define and manage comprehensive testing strategies including SIT, E2E, UAT, performance, resilience, security, and production readiness testing.
- Lead implementation planning, release management, cutover activities, rollback procedures, vendor coordination, and post-go-live hypercare support.
- Manage project risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies while proactively driving resolution and stakeholder alignment.
- Facilitate governance meetings, executive steering committees, decision forums, and stakeholder workshops.
- Provide clear business impact assessments, delivery recommendations, and communication updates to senior leadership teams.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Mandatory Requirements
- 10+ years of Project Management experience delivering large-scale technology programs within Banking, Financial Services, Capital Markets, or Payments environments.
• Proven experience leading Payments Technology Projects involving payment processing, clearing, settlement, payment platforms, messaging systems, and systems integration.
• Strong hands-on experience delivering projects related to ISO 20022 migration and implementation.
• Solid working knowledge of SWIFT messaging, payment processing workflows, clearing, settlement, and reconciliation processes.
• Experience within Capital Markets environments is mandatory.
- Demonstrated experience managing large cross-functional project teams and third-party vendors without direct reporting authority.
- Strong understanding of Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid project delivery methodologies.
- Experience managing technology delivery risks, governance, financials, executive reporting, and regulatory requirements.
- Expertise in implementation planning, production deployments, operational readiness, and post-release support.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to engage senior business and technology leaders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with real-time payments, cross-border payments, payment gateways, and account-to-account payment solutions.
- Exposure to fraud prevention platforms, sanctions screening solutions, payment investigations, exceptions management, and operational controls.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms, microservices architecture, event-driven technologies, and modernization initiatives.
- Experience working with payment processors, financial messaging providers, or large enterprise technology vendors.
- PMP, PRINCE2, AgilePM, Scrum Master, or related Project Management certifications.
