Senior Business Intelligence Engineer
Job Type: Contract
Contract Duration: 4 Months (Potential Extension up to 12 Months)
Pay Rate/Salary: 70 on Inc
Location: 4 Days Onsite, Downtown Toronto, ON
What You Need to Do
· Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade Power BI semantic models, datasets, reports, and dashboards supporting Portfolio Analytics, Investments, and related business functions.
· Build visually compelling and decision-driven reports leveraging best practices in data storytelling and the "Call to Action" framework (Takeaway, Insight, Implication, and Action).
· Lead the technical design and implementation of Power BI solutions from requirements gathering through deployment and support.
· Optimize and troubleshoot complex Power BI reports, semantic models, DAX calculations, refresh processes, and overall report performance.
· Develop and maintain reusable semantic models and certified enterprise datasets to promote consistency across reporting solutions.
· Support production incidents, investigate root causes, and implement preventative improvements.
· Establish and promote BI engineering standards, best practices, and governance processes across reporting solutions.
· Apply Power BI development best practices including data modeling, performance tuning, security design, report usability, and governance standards.
· Build strong relationships with investment teams and business stakeholders to understand evolving analytical needs.
· Communicate technical concepts and analytical insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
· Create Power BI dashboards from scratch and present solutions directly to business stakeholders.
· Optimize and support existing reporting platforms and analytics solutions.
· Support Portfolio Analytics, Investments, and Capital Markets reporting initiatives.
What You'll Need to Succeed
· 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and supporting Power BI solutions in an enterprise environment.
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
· Expert-level Power BI development experience including Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, Power Query (M), DAX, Semantic Modeling, and Data Visualization Best Practices.
· Experience troubleshooting and optimizing complex Power BI solutions involving large data volumes and complex business logic.
· Experience with GitHub-based source control and CI/CD deployment practices for Power BI assets.
· Experience partnering with business stakeholders to deliver reporting and analytics solutions that drive business outcomes.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve complex technical issues independently.
· Experience supporting Investments, Portfolio Analytics, Asset Management, Capital Markets, Risk, Finance, or similar analytical domains.
· Ability to understand investment and portfolio management data concepts and translate business requirements into reporting solutions.
· Experience managing multiple initiatives simultaneously while balancing competing priorities.
· Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical solutions to senior business stakeholders.
· Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
· Experience with Capital Markets data.
· Experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Snowflake, Synapse Analytics, and SQL.
· Some level of Data Engineering experience is required.
Preferred Skills & Experience
· Experience implementing AI-enabled analytics capabilities within Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
· Familiarity with Power BI Copilot, AI Instructions, Verified Answers, and semantic model optimization for AI-enabled experiences.
· Experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Snowflake, Synapse Analytics, or similar modern data platforms.
· Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric Data Agents, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, or agentic analytics frameworks.
· Copilot Studio familiarity is considered an asset.
