We believe building engineering is more than systems and structures, it’s about powering progress and enabling innovation. As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you’ll help design the critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes the spaces where people work, connect, and thrive. From high-performance data centers driving the future of AI to dynamic commercial environments, your work will directly support technological advancement, sustainability, and human experience. We bring together mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering experts to solve complex design challenges with precision, creativity, and collaboration. Whether you're optimizing energy efficiency, integrating resilient systems, or engineering the backbone of next-generation facilities, your contributions will help define the future of the built environment. This isn’t just a job, it’s a chance to lead innovation, engineer impact, and build a legacy of excellence.

HDR is currently seeking a Civil Engineer. The successful candidate will be involved in design and project coordination and will work closely with a multi-disciplinary project team to create high-quality design solutions.

Reporting to the Civil Engineering Lead, the Civil Engineer is a member of the integrated project team that contributes site civil engineering knowledge and analysis to the project during the design and construction phase of our work. The role involves working on multi-disciplinary projects with project sites in various locations, across North America, including GTA, western Canada and various locations in US.

In the role of Civil Engineer, we'll count on you to:

Design and plan production for general civil on a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities
Perform quantity calculations
Prepare specifications and contract documents
Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed
Develop conceptual, preliminary and detailed site civil design packages, including drawings, quantities and specifications
Complete civil design in Autodesk Civil 3D, including site grading and drainage, roadway, wet utilities design (storm sewer, sanitary sewer and watermain)
Coordinate civil design with multidisciplinary project team.
Assist the project manager in the day-to-day coordination of projects
Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Coordinator as needed
Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for innovation, collaboration, new experiences, opportunities and exceeding client expectations. This position will be mentored by senior engineers, project managers and business leadership to help the candidate better understand industry best practices, trends, standards, and preferences and successful business practices. Our goal is to help our clients achieve high performance in safety, quality, cost efficiency and profitability for their capital projects and on-going operations.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the municipal infrastructure design using Civil 3D
Familiarity with site civil and road design practices including application of design standards, TAC Geometric Design Guide, various provincial and municipal standards

Microstation and OpenRoads experience is welcome
Experience with municipal and provincial clients in Ontario
Experience with feasibility studies
