At HDR, our employee-owners are fully engaged in creating a welcoming environment where each of us is valued and respected, a place where everyone is empowered to bring their authentic selves and novel ideas to work every day. Watch Our Story:' https://www.hdrinc.com/our-story'

Each and every role throughout our organization makes a difference in our ability to change the world for the better. Read further to learn how you could help make great things possible not only in your community, but around the world.

We believe building engineering is more than systems and structures, it’s about powering progress and enabling innovation. As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you’ll help design the critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes the spaces where people work, connect, and thrive. From high-performance data centers driving the future of AI to dynamic commercial environments, your work will directly support technological advancement, sustainability, and human experience. We bring together mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering experts to solve complex design challenges with precision, creativity, and collaboration. Whether you're optimizing energy efficiency, integrating resilient systems, or engineering the backbone of next-generation facilities, your contributions will help define the future of the built environment. This isn’t just a job, it’s a chance to lead innovation, engineer impact, and build a legacy of excellence.
HDR is seeking a Structural Section Manager to join our growing Building Engineering Services (BES) group in Toronto. In this key leadership position, you will guide our structural design engineering team with a focus on project delivery, team management, and technical excellence. You will manage and mentor a team of engineers and designers, oversee project execution and workload, and serve as a hands-on technical leader ensuring the delivery of high-quality structural projects for our clients.
In the role of Structural Section Manager, we'll count on you to:

- Take responsibility for the daily operations of the Structural section, including staff development, project profitability, team morale, and quality control.
- Function as a Project Manager, taking direct responsibility for production and successful delivery on key structural projects.
- Take administrative responsibility for section staff and lead and coordinate technical services with other groups.
- Support local marketing efforts, including strategic planning, proposal development, and interviews.
- Select, train, develop, and manage technical personnel within the section.
- Work cooperatively with Area and Regional leadership to support local and national marketing and production efforts.
- Implement, monitor, and support company policy and procedures.
- Provide technical leadership in structural analysis, design, and construction-phase services, including the application of relevant codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Implement project QA/QC requirements within the section, coordinate qualified technical reviewers, and ensure review comments are resolved before deliverables are issued.
- Coordinate with the BES Professional Services Leader, project managers, and other Section Managers to forecast workload, align staffing and technical expertise with project needs, and facilitate worksharing across HDR offices.
- Promote integrated, multidisciplinary design through close collaboration with Architecture and other engineering disciplines, market sectors, and business groups.
- Perform other duties as needed to support the team and our clients.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.
- Forward-thinking technical aptitude, including the ability to rigorously audit, validate, and verify AI-generated outputs (e.g., technical correspondence and code interpretations) against core engineering fundamentals and regulations.
- Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand.
- Prior leadership and management experience.
- Project experience in one or more of the following sectors: data centers, healthcare, education, science and technology, transportation, water, and wastewater.
- Experience in coding, programming, and design automation a plus.
- Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired.
- Computer knowledge SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, Risa 3D, RAM, STAAD PRO, or similar analytical software, and working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, Bluebeam, is deemed a plus.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel), and experience using AI tools to support research and design processes within company-approved workflows.
