Original job description

Role and Facility Information

Penticton

Flanked by tree trimmed mountain slopes, dramatic clay cliffs and Okanagan and Skaha Lake, Penticton is one of the larger cities in the BC interior. Its lush surroundings and ideal climate, with over 2,000 hours of sunshine per year, combine to create a paradise. Indulge in, wineries, golf courses, and famous sandy beaches in the summer and skiing and snowshoeing when the snow falls. Penticton is an innovative and adventurous waterfront city offering all the amenities of a larger urban centre while preserving its small-town charm and warmth. With an array of fine dining, shops, recreational facilities and local vendors and agriculturalists at its weekly farmer’s market, Penticton has it all. Come experience this incredible lifestyle for yourself!

Facility: Penticton Regional Hospital

The Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) is a 158-bed Acute Care facility in the Okanagan Health Service Area and responsible for providing core medical and surgical specialty services to surrounding population of approximately 90,000 people.

PRH offers 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Acute Services, Ambulatory and Out-patient Clinics, and Diagnostic/Paramedical Services.

As a regional facility and secondary referral centre for the South Okanagan and Similkameen Valley, you will be joining an excellent complement of medical and surgical specialists. Excellent radiology availability with on site Computed Tomography (CT) and part time Medical Resonance Imaging (MRI). PRH has a seven-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

PRH also serves as the referral base for hematology/transfusion medicine for the smaller local hospitals in Oliver and Princeton.

In April 2019 PRH opened phase one of the David E. Kampe Tower (DKT), a new, state of the art Patient Care Tower. DKT includes a brand new ambulatory care centre, surgical services center, new OR's,84 medical/surgical inpatients beds in single patient rooms, a new medical device reprocessing unit and space for the UBC Faculty of Medicine Program. Phase two was completed in December 2021 and included renovations in the current hospital to allow the expansion of the emergency department four times its current size

Practice Details

Are you looking to practice in a welcoming and collegial setting with a dynamic medical staff association and well-resourced hospital where the community lifestyle opportunities are endless, this could be the opportunity for you! Enjoy your practice and still have time to savour the beautiful lakeside city and abundance of extracurricular activities with colleagues and family when the work day is done.

The Penticton Regional Hospital’s Department of Anesthesia is seeking an engaged team player and confident generalist who is confident in regional anesthesia techniques to join our group of 10 dedicated Anesthesiologists who make an amicable team with 23 surgeons. Additionally, there are 2 ORs at the Summerland Health Centre where we provide services including pediatric dental, ENT and ophthalmology services. Candidates with strong pediatric skills would be an asset.

There are opportunities for teaching medical students and residents. Research can be supported if interested. There is a monthly CME program and quarterly Grand Rounds (supported by the Medical Staff Association).

For those interested, Leadership Development Opportunities are available with Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program. The NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program is a comprehensive leadership development program designed specifically for physicians to address the practical leadership knowledge, behaviours and skills that high potential, emerging medical leaders require to step into leadership roles early in their careers.
