After almost 25 years of practicing at both the Comox Medical Clinic and working in acute care at the Comox Valley Hospital its time to start looking at the next chapter. During my years here I have a had the great pleasure of caring for many wonderful children, adults and their families. However, the time to pass that privilege on to someone new is coming.

If you have been looking for somewhere to start as a new graduate or as someone who is interested in a new adventure - the Comox Valley Medical Clinic in 2028 is the perfect place. With plans to retire in the summer of 2028 I would love to connect with you. You simply won’t find a better place - just ask any of our locums!

SUPPORTIVE COLLEAGUES: Our clinic is built around the idea that we are our own best resource - so whether its a quick hallway consult or a billing question our doors are always open for each other. We value and encourage the development of individual practice goals and special interests - general medicine, women’s health, pediatrics, oncology, cardiology, obstetrics, geriatrics, inpatient and Long Term Care work, as well as surgical OR assists - so wherever your interests lie you’ll find a supportive place here to pursue them.

MINIMUM 3 MONTH VACATION PER YEAR: If you were every worried about getting time off when starting a new practice your worries are over! Taking over my practice comes with a guaranteed minimum of 12 weeks (3 months) of locum coverage/year for you personally over the first two years. No obligation to take that much, but it sure is nice to know you can! Want more? We can definitely work something out!

MAKING PRACTICE EASIER: While we all contribute to ensuring our office runs smoothly our full time office manager keeps the day to day staffing and administrative aspects running so we can focus on what we do best. Dedicated, knowledgeable, and loyal MOA staff who enjoy working together as the Comox Medical Team to ensure that your day ends as well as it starts. Registered Nurse-In-Practice (RN) who provides invaluable patient care and reduced physician workload through direct patient care, answering patient inquiries, MOCA testing, suture removal, wound care, and in house phlebotomy services.

ACCURO EMR: Well maintained and fully integrated EMR for over 20 years now. Fully maximized for charting, labs, documents, referrals, billing and appointments. Online booking for patients, Patient Portal availability and Remote desktop and phone app access.

FLEXIBILITY: We all have different lifestyles, personal and professional lives to lead and we understand that flexibility is key to getting that mix just right for you. With personal dedicated office space alongside of the flexibility of in-person and telehealth visits, in combination with the availability of clinic space on mornings, afternoons, and evenings or Saturday’s if desired - goes a long way to getting your practice going just the way you want!

Start Date

This position is to take over from a retiring physician with the transfer of practice hopefully for the fall of 2028. Prior to that locum work is available.

Overhead

Overhead is calculated under a cost sharing agreement based on the actual costs each month.

Benefits

May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:

Recruitment Incentive - $10,000

Fee Premium - 6.93%

Annual Flat Fee - $10,739.52

Relocation Costs Reimbursement: up to a maximum of $15,000 (amount based on funding availability and on location relocating from);

Rural CME starting at $2,200/annum in years 3 & 4 in the community, increasing to a maximum of $4,400/annum after 4 years

Community Information

The Comox Valley is tucked in between the Beaufort Mountain Range and Salish Sea on the east coast of Vancouver Island. Just 20 minutes by air from Vancouver or a beautiful one hour of coastal drive north from Nanaimo. Strathcona Wilderness Park with nearly 250 000 hectares of mountainous rugged country that boasts Canada’s highest waterfall is a siren call for any back-country enthusiast. The Comox Valley highlights the best that BC has to offer!
