Role and Facility Information

Practice Details

We have a unique part time specialized primary care practice position available.

We are looking for an individual to work up to a 0.4 FTE to increase our services to full time.

Apply now and join the team serving Kelowna Mental Health and Substance Use!

The specialised physicians provide a valuable service on the continuum of care between psychiatry and primary care providers in overall management of individuals with moderate mental health and substance use needs. The service recognises that some individuals present complexities to primary care providers that would benefit from additional training and understanding of mental health and substance use conditions but who may not require the speciality services of a psychiatrist. The MHSU Access triages clients to the most appropriate level of care in this continuum.

In addition to general MHSU presentations, this specialized role will have specific involvement in supporting the Eating Disorders Service to ensure all clients have access to the medical monitoring and care required with an eating disorder diagnosis.

If you are a general practice physician with additional experience and training in mental health and/or substance use assessments and consultation who would enjoy working in a specialised primary care setting with an attached and/or unattached patient population, we would like to speak with you!

The Role Includes

  • Providing assessment and consultation with patients who have a primary care provider
  • Providing assessment and short-term treatment with patients who do not have a primary care provider
  • Providing recommendation and working in consultation with a patient’s primary care provider to support them in ongoing management of their patients.
  • Providing assessment and treatment of unattached patients within specialized MHSU program to support attachment to a primary care provider
  • Working with moderate Mental Health and Substance use disorders including:
  • Eating Disorders:
  • Assessment and Medical monitoring of individuals connected to Eating Disorder Program
  • Collaboration and Consultation with Eating Disorders Interdisciplinary Team
  • Supporting hospital admission locally and at tertiary sites
  • Participation with the eating disorders team as needed
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Complicated ADHD assessment and treatment recommendations
  • Binge Eating disorder
  • Concurrent Substance Use disorders
  • Psychotic disorders:
  • Assessing and monitoring metabolic markers related to psychotropic medication
  • Assessment and treatment of general health
