The Division of Hematology, Oncology & Bone and Marrow Transplant in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the Director, Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Research at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR).

Reporting to the Division Head of hematology/oncology/BMT in the UBC Department of Pediatrics, and the Senior Executive Director of BCCHR, the successful candidate will be a strategic leader who will work with outstanding clinicians, scientists and members of the community to further the research mission of the hematology/oncology/BMT program with innovative approaches and collaborative interactions with local partners (UBC, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, BC Cancer and other research units within the PHSA) as well as with provincial, national and international organizations. As an established, independent researcher, the incumbent will be expected to lead their own research program at BCCHR and the UBC Department of Pediatrics and support the ongoing development of hematology and oncology-related research activities broadly, spanning foundational science to outcomes and epidemiology studies. In addition, the appointee will have responsibility for oversight and direction of the large and highly active hematology/oncology/BMT clinical trials unit.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively to develop a unified vision for the Research Program that supports and enhances the current environment of research excellence and innovation while maintaining the cohesive and collegial culture. They will actively work to spearhead a culture of teamwork, collaboration and mentorship with the goal of advancing the research capacity and international recognition of the program and its members.

The successful candidate will hold an MD and/or PhD. If MD, the candidate will have passed or be eligible for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada examinations in Pediatrics, or comparable qualifications, and will have completed a recognized training program in Pediatric Hematology and/or Oncology. Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.

Qualified candidates should send their CV and the name, title and contact information of 4 referees. Applications will be accepted until August 15, 2027. Anticipated start date for the position is January 2, 2027, or a date to be mutually agreed.
