Original job description

Heidelberg Materials UK (formerly Hanson UK) is one of the UK’s largest suppliers of construction materials, employing over 4,000 people and operating around 300 manufacturing sites in the UK.

We are committed to building a more sustainable future and recognise that a diverse workforce is vital to our growth and advancement. We aim to promote a culture that values openness, transparency and individual achievement.

At the centre of our actions lies the responsibility for the environment. As the front runner on the path to carbon neutrality and circular economy in the building materials industry, we are working on sustainable building materials and solutions for the future. We enable new opportunities for our customers through digitalisation.

Plant Supervisor

Take the Lead. Keep Concrete Moving. Make an Impact.

Are you a practical, hands-on person who takes pride in running a safe, efficient and well-presented site?

We’re looking for a Plant Supervisor to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our concrete plant. This is a varied role where you’ll be involved in everything from batching concrete and managing stock to maintaining the plant, supporting customers and making sure the site operates safely and efficiently.

You’ll work closely with colleagues, customers and the Order Office to make sure we deliver the right products, at the right quality, while maintaining excellent standards across the plant, yard and facilities.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Plant Supervisor, you’ll play a key role in keeping the site running smoothly. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operating the batching plant and producing concrete and mortar to the required quality standards
  • Working closely with the Order Office, colleagues and customers to meet production requirements
  • Ensuring the plant is adequately stocked with approved materials
  • Inspecting incoming materials and carrying out regular stock checks
  • Carrying out routine plant inspections and maintenance
  • Identifying, recording and reporting defects or operational issues
  • Maintaining excellent standards of housekeeping across the plant, yard, buildings, equipment and facilities
  • Ensuring employees, contractors and visitors follow relevant site safety requirements
  • Managing waste disposal, water discharge and dust emissions in line with environmental procedures
  • Reviewing working methods and plant utilisation to help improve efficiency
  • Operating plant equipment, including the batching plant and FEL, where trained and authorised
  • Maintaining accurate operational, maintenance and stock records
  • Delivering a high standard of customer service at all times.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is safety-conscious, reliable and proactive, with a practical approach to getting the job done.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A positive approach to Health & Safety and environmental standards
  • Good attention to detail
  • A hands-on approach to maintenance and housekeeping
  • Confidence working independently as well as part of a team
  • A strong customer-service mindset
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent, in Maths and English.
  • Experience within concrete, aggregates, manufacturing, production or another industrial environment would be beneficial. Experience operating batching equipment or a Front End Loader would also be advantageous.

Why Join Us?

This isn’t a role where you’ll be sitting behind a desk all day. You’ll be at the heart of the operation, taking ownership of the plant and helping ensure our customers receive a great service.

It’s an opportunity to build your knowledge of concrete production, plant operations, stock management, maintenance, quality, safety and environmental compliance, with training and development to help you continue building your career.

Ready to take ownership of a plant and play an important role in keeping our operation moving? Apply today.
