Original job description

Helcim is searching for a Senior Software Engineer to help develop the next generation of payments technology. We're looking for a talented & experienced individual with a passion for coding, enjoys learning & implementing new technologies, has strong problem-solving skills and a user-focused approach to software development.
As a Senior Engineer you will be building and deploying high-quality software solutions. You will continually be involved in mentoring and coaching, ensuring you and your team are delivering at a high level. We put an emphasis on developing our team members to build them into well rounded professionals.
As a member of our team, you will be working on numerous ongoing and new projects. Helcim is a fast-paced, high-demand company and the successful candidate will work well in that environment.

On this team, you're building the money engine that makes sure merchants actually get paid. We own the full flow- from settlement and funding to accounting, reconciliation, and reserves. Every transaction that hits the platform? We're the ones making sure the math checks out, the bank transfers land, and the ledger stays tight. We plug directly into banking partners, so there's zero room for "close enough"- precision is the whole point. The impact hits different- what we ship is literally how money moves and how the business keeps the books straight.

6+ years of professional software development experience.
Education should include a Bachelor's, technical degree, bootcamp or other certifications in computer programming, computer science or object-oriented software development, or equivalent experience.
Highly proficient in PHP, Laravel + some Front end javascript experience (Vue/React/Angular/Vanilla JS).
Strong experience in system design for backend services, including caching strategies, fault tolerance, and performance optimization.
Proven ability to optimize SQL queries and large-scale data workflows to handle high transaction volumes.
Familiarity with cloud-native databases and BigQuery is a plus, as well as experience in Golang.
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, or other containerization software(s).

✨ Not checking every box? Please apply anyway! We know that candidates have different experiences that may make them a great fit for this position and for Helcim. We believe that diversity and having an inclusive culture is not only the right thing, but key to our long-term success. Diversity brings more experience, view-points, knowledge and insight about our future. We also want to provide an accessible interview process, so if there’s any accommodations that would make your experience more comfortable, please let us know.

Designs and maintains scalable, high-performance APIs to support both internal and external services, with a focus on correctness, reliability and security using PHP Laravel.
Builds systems through event driven architecture with PHP as well as Go.
Coaches and mentors junior developers, providing guidance, support, and feedback to help them grow in their roles.
Work in a highly collaborative environment with cross functional teams (Data/Product/DevOps/Stakeholders/Design)
Building Continuous Integration/Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines through Gitlab to increase automation.
Being on the lookout for ways to improve our development processes.
Being a role model for high engineering standards.
Discovering new insights through our BigQuery Data Warehouse
Creating metrics, dashboards, and monitoring in Datadog to improve visibility, reliability, and operational awareness.
Deploying and maintaining projects through Cloud Infrastructure such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform

Helcim was founded with a mission at heart: to be the world’s most loved payment system. From the very start, we knew that we wanted to be different from every payment processor out there. We want the merchants we serve to feel supported and see us as a trusted partner rather than simply just another “cost of doing business.” We are relentless in our pursuit to provide a radically transparent and honest payments solution that flat out saves business owners money, all while treating them like human beings.

At Helcim, we build a team of engaged, caring and intelligent people. In return we provide an environment where you can be excited to come to work each day and tackle these challenges with an amazing team. Learn more in our culture book; The Way of the Helcim.
The Helcim Culture: How We Work

We Are Builders: We don't wait for solutions; we create them.
The Harder Path: We choose what’s difficult because it’s more rewarding.
Creating Trust: We earn it every day by being our best selves.
Company of Many: We’re a collective force. Great teams do great things.

The Perks: Why You’ll Love It Here 🎁

Ownership: Every single team member gets Stock Options. You own a piece of what you build! 📈
Health First: Comprehensive benefits + a Health Spending Account (HSA) starting on Day 1. 🦷
Flexibility: Hybrid life! We’re in-office Mon/Wed/Fri and remote Tue/Thu. 🏠
Family Support: Top-ups for maternity/parental leave and "bonding breaks." 👶
Rest & Recharge: Paid vacation + a full company break in December. ❄️
Growth: $500 annual training budget to keep your skills sharp. 📚
