Original job description

Build relationships. Support leaders. Make an impact.

Are you an experienced HR professional who enjoys solving problems, supporting leaders, and making a meaningful difference in the workplace? At Hercules Group of Companies, we're growing, evolving, and looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join our collaborative and supportive HR team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This isn't just a role focused on policies and processes. It's an opportunity to be a trusted HR partner to managers across our national operations, help navigate real workplace challenges, and contribute to how we support and develop our people. If you're someone who takes initiative, enjoys variety, brings solutions to the table, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, we'd love to meet you!

Who We Are

Hercules Group of Companies is a growing group of industrial businesses dedicated to keeping industry moving safely and efficiently. With operations across Canada and into the United States, our success is built on the strength of our people, our commitment to safety, and our ability to work together. Our values reflect who we are: Health, Safety & Environment, Proactive Accountability, Learning & Growth, Winning as a Team, and Leading by Example. Our HR team is a close-knit, collaborative group that genuinely enjoys working together. We share ideas, support one another, celebrate successes, and aren't afraid to roll up our sleeves when things get busy. We're looking for someone who will bring their experience, personality, and perspective to the team.

What You'll Be Doing

Reporting to the HR Manager, you'll play an important role in supporting managers and employees across multiple locations and jurisdictions.

Your responsibilities will include:

Partnering with managers: Providing practical, timely HR advice and coaching to leaders across our national operations on employee relations, workplace concerns, and day-to-day people management.
Supporting employee relations: Independently managing employee concerns, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, attendance management, and disciplinary matters with professionalism and sound judgment.
Driving performance management: Helping managers establish clear expectations, navigate challenging conversations, provide meaningful feedback, and manage employee performance effectively.
Navigating employment legislation: Applying employment standards, human rights requirements, and HR best practices across multiple Canadian jurisdictions while proactively identifying potential risks.
Managing leaves and accommodations: Supporting medical leaves, workplace accommodations, workers' compensation claims, and return-to-work processes.
Improving policies and processes: Contributing to the development and implementation of HR policies, programs, and initiatives that support our growing organization.
Supporting organizational growth: Participating in HR projects focused on employee development, engagement, retention, and continuous improvement.
Collaborating with our HR team: Working alongside our Talent Acquisition Specialist and Benefits & HR Administrator to deliver consistent, responsive HR support.

What You Bring to the Team

We're looking for someone who combines strong HR knowledge with practical judgment, initiative, and a genuine passion for helping people and businesses succeed.

Ideally, you'll have:

3-5+ years of progressive HR experience, with strong hands-on experience in employee relations and performance management.
Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
Strong working knowledge of Canadian employment legislation, including employment standards and human rights.
Experience supporting managers through complex employee relations situations, workplace investigations, and performance concerns.
Confidence in providing guidance, making recommendations, and managing competing priorities independently.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance day-to-day HR needs with longer-term initiatives.
A collaborative, approachable personality and a solutions-focused mindset.

Additional assets:

CPHR designation or working toward certification.
Experience supporting multi-provincial or multi-site operations.
Experience in industrial, manufacturing, construction, or service-based environments.
Familiarity with UKG or similar HR information systems.
Bilingualism in English and French.

What we offer
• Competitive salary based on experience
• Monday - Friday schedule (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
• 5% Registered Pension Plan (RPP) matching to support your long-term financial security
• Comprehensive health and dental benefits
• Training and professional development opportunities to keep building your capabilities
• A supportive, safety-first team culture where collaboration and accountability go hand in hand
• Real opportunities for long-term career growth within a national organization that promotes from within
• Employee parking

Why Join Hercules?

A great team. You'll join a welcoming HR department where collaboration, communication, and supporting one another are part of our everyday culture.
Meaningful work. You'll have the opportunity to make a real difference by helping managers navigate challenges, develop their teams, and create positive workplace experiences.
Variety and opportunity. Supporting a growing organization with multiple businesses and locations means no two days are quite the same.
Room to grow. We believe in learning, development, and providing opportunities for our people to build their careers.
A seat at the table. Your ideas, experience, and recommendations will be valued as we continue improving our people practices and supporting our business.
A people-first environment. We take our work seriously, but we also believe in enjoying the people we work with, celebrating our wins, and having some fun along the way.

This is a full-time, on-site position based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, supporting managers and employees across our national operations. Occasional travel to other company locations may be required.

Ready to Make an Impact?

If you're an experienced HR professional who enjoys working with people, tackling challenges, and being part of a team where your contributions truly matter, we'd love to hear from you.

We encourage candidates to apply even if they do not meet every listed qualification, as we recognize the value of transferable skills, practical experience, and the potential for professional growth.
