ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE

Nhwelmen Construction is a 100% Nlaka'pamux owned entity and a Certified Aboriginal Business by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business. Officially formed in 2017, our team has been committed to ensuring a safe work environment, because each one of our crew members are first someone's partner, friend, and family.

We are a respected earthworks and aggregates contractor with decades of experience in completing projects of all sizes for clients in a variety of industries. One of our core strengths is our ability to adapt and integrate with our clients and other professionals involved with a project. We have built everything from highways, dams, settling ponds and pipelines, to residential, commercial, and industrial subdivisions across British Columbia.

Our team of experienced professionals, combined with our extensive fleet of heavy-duty equipment, gives us the unique in-house capacity to meet all your needs for commercial and large industrial applications alike. Our commitment to providing exceptional service and high-quality results means your projects are completed on time and on budget.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

NHWELMEN Construction is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Quality Control Coordinator to oversee quality assurance and quality control activities on construction projects. The QC Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all work meets project specifications, regulatory requirements, client expectations, and company standards through effective inspections, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement practices.

Location: Highland Valley Copper, MLE Project | Logan Lake, BC

The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, site supervisors, subcontractors, field personnel, clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies to maintain quality standards throughout all phases of construction.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive quality control plan specific to earthworks.

· Conduct on-site inspections of all phases, from initial clearing to final grading.

· Oversee and verify soil testing, compaction tests (e.g., proctor and nuclear density), and material quality.

· Manage and maintain all project documentation, including daily reports, test results, and non-conformance reports.

· Collaborate closely with project managers, site supervisors, and engineers to address any quality issues immediately.

· Ensure all work complies with engineering drawings, local regulations, and safety protocols.

· Train and guide field crews on proper quality control procedures and standards

· Perform other duties as assigned to support the successful delivery of projects

· Wear, maintain, and properly use all required personal protective equipment (PPE) as required in accordance with company policies, site requirements, and applicable safety regulations

· 1-2 years of experience as a Quality Control Coordinator, Inspector, or a similar role on earthworks or civil construction project.

· Strong understanding of earthmoving equipment, soil mechanics, and compaction methods.

· Familiarity with relevant testing procedures and equipment (e.g., nuclear densometer).

· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

· Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, informed decisions on-site.

· Strong communication skills to effectively interact with a variety of team members, from labourers to engineers.

· Valid class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract and ability to travel to various job sites.

· Certification in quality control or assurance is an asset.

· Ability to complete mandatory internet-based Orientation and Indoctrination training and certification

TECHNICAL SKILLS

· Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, specifications, and testing procedures.

· Experience reviewing engineering drawings and contract documents.

· Familiarity with quality management systems and inspection processes.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software.

· Experience managing project documentation and turnover records.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Ability to walk uneven terrain and active construction site
Ability to lift and carry survey equipment up to 25 kg (55 lbs)
Willingness to travel and work at remote project locations as required

Key Elements

Actual hands-on QC experience in civil earthworks, not simply general construction exposure.

Field density and moisture testing, compaction verification, materials testing and associated reporting; materials technician experience is relevant.

Read engineering drawings/specifications; document inspections, results and non-conformances; communicate findings to site crews, supervisors and engineers.

Understand soil mechanics, earthmoving methods and testing tools, including nuclear density equipment where applicable.

Competitive hourly rate based on qualifications and experience - $35–$45/hour

Extended health benefits

Employment / schedule: Permanent employee; nominally 14 days on / 7 days off, 10-hour days. Modified schedules are currently in use because of resource shortages; candidates must be flexible.

Travel / accommodation: Bus pickup from Kamloops, Merritt and Logan Lake. Local employees: $70/day travel allowance. Non-local employees: $200/day LOA and arrange/pay for their own accommodation.
