Original job description

Company Description Hilson Development Ltd is a construction and development company headquartered in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, serving clients across BC and Ontario. The company delivers commercial and institutional projects through design-build, general contracting, construction management, and tenant improvement services. Hilson Development Ltd focuses on quality, collaboration, and efficient project delivery for a diverse client base. Team members work in a professional environment with exposure to varied project types and modern construction practices. The organization values reliability, clear communication, and long-term relationships with clients and partners.
Role Description The Estimator role is a full-time hybrid position based in Maple Ridge, BC, with flexibility for some work from home. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing project plans and specifications, performing quantity take-offs, preparing cost estimates and budgets, and soliciting and analyzing subcontractor and supplier quotations. The Estimator will collaborate with project managers, site teams, and design professionals to refine estimates, support bidding strategies, and help maintain cost control throughout the project lifecycle. This role also involves developing and updating cost databases, preparing tender submissions, and contributing to value engineering and risk assessment. The Estimator will use estimating software and standard tools to ensure accurate, timely, and competitive proposals for commercial and institutional construction projects.
Qualifications

Demonstrated expertise in construction estimating for commercial and institutional projects, including quantity take-offs, cost analysis, and bid preparation.
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, building codes, and industry best practices, preferably within BC and Ontario.
Proficiency with estimating and project management software (e.g., Bluebeam, Excel, specialized estimating tools) and solid general computer skills.
Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy under time-sensitive deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple estimates concurrently, and work both independently and as part of a project team in a hybrid environment.
Post-secondary education in construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Previous experience in estimating within a general contracting or design-build environment is an asset.
Familiarity with tendering processes, procurement practices, and financial aspects of construction projects is beneficial.
Commitment to safety, ethical business practices, and continuous professional development.
