Controller

A family-owned, premier manufacturer of paving stones and retaining walls is looking to add a Controller to their team!

The Role

As a Controller, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the accounting function, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and financial analysis.

You Will

• Lead and oversee the accounting function, ensuring timely, accurate, and effective financial reporting
• Prepare monthly, annual, and management financial reports
• Develop financial analyses, including inventory, costing, profitability, and operational performance analysis
• Prepare and manage the annual business plan and budget
• Develop annual forecasts and monitor actual expenditures against budget and forecast
• Work closely with the management team to identify financial trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement
• Develop and implement cost-containment and cost-control initiatives
• Maintain, improve, and enhance costing systems and financial processes
• Oversee treasury functions, including cash flow and effective cash management
• Support corporate requirements related to tax, insurance, and regulatory compliance
• Supervise and provide direction to local accounting and reception/administrative staff
• Coordinate the annual external audit process and act as a key liaison with external auditors
• Partner with the General Manager and management team on financial and operational projects
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including corporate finance teams, auditors, insurance providers, banking partners, and other business locations
• Conduct occasional travel to company locations within the GTA for site visits; overnight travel is not expected
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting accuracy, operational efficiency, and overall profitability

You Have

• 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including 4+ years in a Controller or equivalent senior financial leadership role
• A university degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline
• CPA designation
• Experience within a manufacturing environment
• Solid understanding of manufacturing accounting, costing, inventory, and profitability analysis.
• Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and variance analysis.
