Original job description

A family-owned, premier manufacturer of paving stones and retaining walls is looking to add a Controller to their team!

The Role

As a Controller, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the accounting function, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and financial analysis.

You Will

Lead and oversee the accounting function, ensuring timely, accurate, and effective financial reporting
Prepare monthly, annual, and management financial reports
Develop financial analyses, including inventory, costing, profitability, and operational performance analysis
Prepare and manage the annual business plan and budget
Develop annual forecasts and monitor actual expenditures against budget and forecast
Work closely with the management team to identify financial trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement
Develop and implement cost-containment and cost-control initiatives
Maintain, improve, and enhance costing systems and financial processes
Oversee treasury functions, including cash flow and effective cash management
Support corporate requirements related to tax, insurance, and regulatory compliance
Supervise and provide direction to local accounting and reception/administrative staff
Coordinate the annual external audit process and act as a key liaison with external auditors
Partner with the General Manager and management team on financial and operational projects
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and internal controls
Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including corporate finance teams, auditors, insurance providers, banking partners, and other business locations
Conduct occasional travel to company locations within the GTA for site visits; overnight travel is not expected
Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting accuracy, operational efficiency, and overall profitability

You Have

8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including 4+ years in a Controller or equivalent senior financial leadership role
A university degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline
CPA designation
Experience within a manufacturing environment
Solid understanding of manufacturing accounting, costing, inventory, and profitability analysis.
Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and variance analysis.

Organized with superior time management skills
Collaborative, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and manage competing priorities effectively
Detail-oriented and analytical with strong problem-solving capabilities
