Original job description

Forward Deployed Solutions Engineer (Early Career)

Location: Canada (Remote or Hybrid) Employment Type: Full-Time

Build technology that solves real business problems.

At Hiveway, we believe software should make work simpler - not more complicated.

We build payment and revenue automation solutions that help organizations modernize how they collect payments, connect business systems, and eliminate manual processes.

We're looking for curious, ambitious engineers at the beginning of their careers who want more than a traditional software development role.

If you're excited by solving real customer problems, building production software, and learning directly from experienced engineers while working with enterprise customers, we'd love to meet you.

What is a Forward Deployed Solutions Engineer?

A Forward Deployed Solutions Engineer (FDSE) combines software engineering, solution architecture, and customer problem-solving into one role.

Instead of working only from a product backlog, you'll work alongside customers to understand how their business operates, identify technical challenges, and help build solutions that create measurable business impact.

You'll learn how software, payments, APIs, data, finance, and business operations come together to solve real-world problems.

No two projects are exactly the same - which means you'll constantly learn, grow, and be challenged.

What You'll Do

Working alongside experienced engineers and mentors, you'll help:

Build production software and customer solutions
Design and develop API integrations
Connect payment, CRM, ERP, and accounting systems
Automate manual business processes
Design data workflows and reconciliation logic
Investigate and resolve production issues
Participate in customer discovery sessions
Translate business challenges into technical solutions
Improve existing platform capabilities
Document and share technical best practices

You'll work across Engineering, Product, Customer Success, and directly with customers.

What You'll Learn

This role is designed to accelerate your career.

During your first year you'll gain experience in:

Software engineering best practices
Solution architecture
API design and integrations
Payment technologies
Cloud applications
Production operations
Customer discovery
Enterprise software implementation
Systems thinking
Technical communication

You'll receive mentorship while taking on meaningful responsibility from day one.

What We're Looking For

You don't need to know everything.

We're looking for people with strong fundamentals and an eagerness to learn.

You may be a great fit if you:

Love solving difficult problems
Enjoy learning new technologies
Ask thoughtful questions
Communicate clearly
Take ownership of your work
Like understanding how businesses operate
Enjoy collaborating with both technical and non-technical people
Are curious about APIs, integrations, automation, or cloud software
Want to see your work used by real customers

Minimum Qualifications

We're interested in candidates who are completing or have recently completed a degree or diploma in areas such as:

Computer Science
Software Engineering
Computer Engineering
Systems Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Mathematics
Data Science
Information Systems
Physics
Mechatronics

Equivalent technical experience is also welcome.

You should also have:

Experience programming in at least one modern language
Understanding of software engineering fundamentals
Familiarity with Git
Basic understanding of APIs, databases, or web applications
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills

Programming languages may include:

TypeScript / JavaScript
Python
Java
C#
Go
C++
Or another modern language

Bonus Points

We're especially interested if you've:

Completed internships or co-op placements
Built applications people actually use
Created personal or open-source projects
Participated in hackathons
Worked with APIs
Built full-stack applications
Worked at a startup
Automated repetitive work
Built something outside the classroom

We care much more about what you've built than where you've built it.

How We Work

At Hiveway we believe:

Start with the problem.

Understand the customer before designing the solution.

Build for production.

Reliable software beats clever software.

Stay curious.

The best engineers are always learning.

Own outcomes.

We take responsibility for solving problems - not just completing tasks.

Keep improving.

Every customer teaches us something that makes our platform better.

Your First 90 Days

You'll receive structured onboarding, mentorship, and regular feedback.

During your first three months you'll:

Learn Hiveway's platform and development environment
Shadow customer meetings
Contribute production code
Build your first integration or workflow
Participate in architecture discussions
Learn our engineering standards
Work with experienced engineers on customer implementations

As your confidence grows, so will your ownership.

What Success Looks Like

Successful engineers at Hiveway:

Ask great questions
Learn quickly
Build reliable software
Communicate effectively
Solve customer problems
Take ownership
Continuously improve
Help others succeed

Why Join Hiveway?

Large companies often give new graduates a very small piece of a very large system.

At Hiveway, you'll see the entire picture.

You'll learn directly from experienced engineers, work with enterprise customers, contribute to production systems, and influence how our platform evolves.

You'll gain experience across engineering, product, customer solutions, and business operations while helping solve meaningful problems for growing organizations.

If you want a role where your work matters from the beginning, Hiveway is the place to build your career.

Compensation & Benefits

Expected base salary:

CAD $85,000 – $105,000

Actual compensation will depend on your experience, internships, technical skills, and demonstrated capabilities.

Our total rewards package may include:

Performance-based incentives
Equity participation
Health and dental benefits
Paid vacation
Professional development budget
Home office and technology support
Mentorship and career development
Flexible remote/hybrid work

How to Apply

Please submit:

Your resume (PDF preferred)
GitHub, portfolio, or personal website (if available)

We don't expect you to know everything.

We're interested in what you've built, what you've learned, and how you approach solving difficult problems.

Equal Opportunity

Hiveway is committed to building an inclusive workplace where people are evaluated based on their skills, potential, curiosity, and ability to contribute.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and provide reasonable accommodations throughout the hiring process.

If you're excited about building great software, solving real customer problems, and growing alongside an experienced team, we'd love to hear from you.
