- Specify, evaluate and select static, rotating and packaged mechanical equipment in accordance with project requirements and applicable codes and standards.
- Lead technical bid evaluations, review vendor drawings and documentation, and resolve technical matters with suppliers and fabricators.
- Provide mechanical input to P&IDs, equipment layouts and multi-disciplinary design deliverables to support safe, operable and constructible facilities.
- Plan and coordinate assigned mechanical work, monitor deliverables against scope and schedule, and identify technical risks or changes requiring project action.
- Lead or participate in design, constructability, operability and process-safety reviews, including HAZOP activities, as required.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to intermediate and junior engineers and designers, and review their work for technical accuracy and completeness.
- Interface with clients, project managers, other disciplines, vendors and construction teams to resolve complex technical issues and support project decisions.
- Provide construction, fabrication, commissioning and start-up support, including site visits, field reviews and responses to technical queries.
- Ensure mechanical deliverables comply with project requirements, client specifications, applicable codes and standards, and HOCS quality and safety practices.
- Authenticate professional engineering documents when required and within the engineer’s area of competence and professional responsibilities.
Education, Professional Registration & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered and in good standing with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
- Minimum 10 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience within the oil and gas, industrial, EPC or EPCM environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading mechanical scopes and preparing and reviewing deliverables for static, rotating and packaged equipment.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable mechanical codes and standards, including relevant ASME, API and CSA requirements.
- Experience with pressure vessels, piping systems, pumps, compressors and mechanical equipment packages, as applicable to project scope.
- Experience with equipment specifications, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, vendor document review, fabrication support and procurement coordination.
- Experience supporting multi-disciplinary projects through concept development, FEED, detailed engineering, construction, commissioning and start-up.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance, complete quality reviews and resolve complex engineering issues.
- Strong client-facing, technical writing, communication, organization, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Field, brownfield, facility modification or operating-plant experience is considered an asset.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
