Role Description
The Supervised ABA Therapist / Behaviour Technician is an independent contractor role based in Ottawa, ON. Services are delivered in person at agreed client locations, with some tasks, such as documentation and preparation of session materials, completed remotely.
Position summary
Deliver individualized and small-group ABA services to children and youth under the documented supervision of an RBA (Ont.). The role implements, but does not independently design or authorize, assessments, treatment plans or behaviour intervention plans.
Key responsibilities
- Implementing individualized Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programs under supervision
- Supporting autistic children and youth in skill development across home, clinic, school, and community settings
- Collect accurate data; complete session notes and incident documentation within required timelines.
- The role involves following treatment plans, assisting with behavior support strategies, preparing session materials, and maintaining clear and timely records.
- Participate in supervision, competency checks, case discussions and required training.
- The therapist collaborates with clinical supervisors and other team members, communicates with caregivers in a professional and respectful manner, and upholds client safety, confidentiality, and dignity at all times.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in ABA, psychology, behavioural science, child and youth care, developmental services, education or a related field; equivalent combinations considered.
- At least six months of relevant experience providing direct services to children and youth with autism or developmental disabilities.
- Strong foundation in Applied Behavior Analysis and Behavior Analysis, with the ability to implement ABA-based intervention plans under supervision.
- Background or coursework in Psychology or related fields, with an understanding of developmental and behavioral principles.
- Demonstrated experience working with children, ideally including autistic or neurodiverse individuals in clinical, educational, or community settings.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including clear communication, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to build trust with clients and families.
- Ability to follow clinical protocols, accurately collect and report data, and use basic digital tools for documentation.
- Capacity to work in a hybrid environment, including traveling within Ottawa for sessions and managing some responsibilities remotely.
- CPR/First Aid certification, clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check, and adherence to privacy and professional ethics standards.
Assets
- Relevant certification or training as a Behaviour Technician/ABA Therapist (e.g., RBT or equivalent) is an asset.
- English/French bilingualism
- Experience in home, school or community settings
Working conditions and safeguards
- Schedules may include after-school, evening or occasional weekend assignments disclosed in advance.
- The engagement is subject to an independent contractor service agreement, applicable HolistiCare policies concerning client services and safety, and applicable legal, privacy, accessibility and clinical requirements.
