📍Your Impact Starts Here
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Product team, you’ll build the products small business owners rely on every single day: Scheduling, HR Management (HRM), and Payroll. This is where a shift becomes a timecard, becomes a paycheck, and where getting it right really matters.
You ship fast, own what you ship, and make the people around you better. You’ll work alongside Product, Design, and Data, and you’ll build the AI-first way. As an E3, you’ll lead projects end to end and grow your impact across the team.
These are the key ways you’ll contribute and create impact in this role:
Ship end to end: Design, build, and launch features across Scheduling, HRM, and Payroll, and stay with them in production
Build it right: Deliver reliable, testable, maintainable code where accuracy matters, from hours worked to dollars paid
Connect the domains: Solve problems where Scheduling, Time Tracking, HRM, and Payroll meet, and make those seams invisible to customers
Be Customer Obsessed: Stay close to the small business owners and workers who use what you build, and fix what hurts them first
Build AI-first: Use AI and agentic tools daily across design, code, tests, and reviews, and share the workflows that work
Raise the bar: Give sharp code reviews, advance Homebase engineering standards, and mentor the engineers around you
Partner closely: Work with PMs, Designers, and Data to shape what we build and how fast we learn
Your scope: Lead the implementation of components and services, own estimates and delivery, and bring junior engineers along
🚀 The Foundation for Success - These are the experiences and strengths that will set you up for success in this role:
Strong software engineering fundamentals and a record of shipping production software that customers depend on
Ideal candidate brings a strong background in Ruby on Rails
Craft you can show: clean design, solid tests, and thoughtful trade-offs
Comfort working in a high-velocity environment where shipping fast and iterating matters
Clear communicator who works well with Product, Design, and Data
Experience with payroll, scheduling, workforce management, or similarly complex business domains is a plus
Active AI fluency: you use AI tools daily to improve your own work and can show the impact
Leads implementation of components or services and delivers projects end to end
Owns estimation, execution, and iterative improvement
Mentors junior engineers
