Basketball Referee
Location: Regina, SK (In-Person)
Hours: One evening a week through the season. Games run back to back, so you are in and out.
Pay: $25 an hour
We are hiring referees for the HoopLife League's 5v5 divisions, grades 5 through 12. Two games a night per division, back to back. $25 an hour, and we train you before you ever blow a whistle on your own.
HoopLife Basketball runs the HoopLife Centre at 661 Solomon Cres in Regina: weekly skills sessions, the HoopLife League, camps through every school break, open gym, and Young Stars for our youngest players. We also run basketball clinics for communities right across Canada. Everything we do is built to make a young player more confident, on the floor and off it.
What you would do
- Officiate 5v5 games in the HoopLife League, grades 5 through 12.
- Arrive half an hour before the first game, say hello, stretch out and get a sweat going.
- Work with the minor official on the clock and the score sheet.
- Keep the game moving and keep it safe. Most of these players are learning.

Questions people ask
Do I need to be a certified referee?
No. If you know basketball we will train you. We have a written guide with every signal and every call in it, and you work your first nights alongside somebody experienced.
What does it pay?
$25 an hour.
Which games would I officiate?
The 5v5 divisions, grades 5 through 12. Our grades 1 to 4 divisions play 3x3 and the coaches handle the whistle there.
How many nights a week?
One, through the season. Games run back to back so you are usually there about two hours.

We signed up our 8-year-old son for the 3-month membership and have really enjoyed our experience. Logistically, I like that all the sessions are laid out in advance, so you can choose what works best for your schedule. It was a great experience for our son to have different coaches and play with different kids regularly. He really enjoyed the coaches! They were friendly, knowledgeable and really helped him to improve his skills. The facility itself is fantastic, and we're glad we gave this a shot!
