Original job description
What we do here is hard, but then very few things worth achieving are easy. By joining Horizon, you will have the opportunity to work with our world-class entrepreneurial team who are passionate about delivering something special.
What we need you to bring.
Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic Senior Engineer – Systems (Powerplant). Your role involves the integration, installation, development, and certification of aircraft propulsion systems and associated hybrid powerplant installations from concept through to entry into service. In addition, responsibilities for the Powerplant team also includes the conventional liquid fuel storage and distribution system.
This role requires close collaboration with Propulsion system suppliers, Structures, Aerodynamics, Systems, Flight Sciences, Manufacturing and Certification teams to ensure safe, efficient, and certifiable engine integration. The successful candidate will play a key role in defining powerplant architecture, managing aircraft-engine interfaces, and supporting certification and flight test activities.
As we’re a small team, there is significant scope for you to advance your career and learn about adjacent disciplines.
Your Day-to-Day
- Lead the integration of engines, intakes, fuel system, electrical generation system and other associated systems into the aircraft platform.
- Define and manage all aircraft-powerplant interface requirements.
- Coordinate installation requirements with engine manufacturers and suppliers.
- Support the development of powerplant architecture and installation concepts.
- Evaluate installation impacts on aircraft performance, operability, maintainability, and certification.
- Develop and maintain powerplant system requirements and interface control documents.
- Review engineering drawings, CAD models, and design changes affecting powerplant installations.
- Coordinate with structures and stress teams on engine mounts, pylons, nacelles, and installation loads.
- Support certification activities in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Develop compliance plans and certification documentation.
- Participate in system safety assessments, failure analyses, and risk evaluations.
- Develop ground and flight test requirements for powerplant systems.
- Stay up to date with and implement the latest developments in your field. Be active in industry forums to drive rulemaking where possible
- You may have skills, talents and experiences outside of those required for your direct role that will be useful to the rest of the team and also there will be times when it’s all hands-on deck and you may be asked to pick-up new tasks: enthusiastically offer help where it will bring value.
- Drive the continuous improvement of our processes to increase safety and efficiency
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in aircraft powerplant engineering, propulsion integration or systems engineering; knowledge of hybrid powerplant architecture and engine controls would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of FAR/CS Part 33, Part 23, Part 27 or equivalent certification standards.
- Application of ARP 4754B to the aircraft development process.
- Familiarity with aircraft simulation environments and digital engineering workflows.
- Proficiency with engineering analysis tools and data processing software.
As part of the team, you will tackle challenges and deliver something that has never been done before. The team is currently full of multi-skilled individuals. Come join our growing team in Montreal! You will be one of the first specialist engineers to join us, which provides significant latitude in developing our working methods alongside needs of developing the platform.
