Original job description
Horizon Exterior Solutions is hiring dependable subcontractor installers for our permanent LED lighting crew.
We install permanent roofline lighting on homes and commercial buildings across Edmonton, Sherwood Park, St. Albert and the surrounding area. You’ll be working on ladders and roofs, at heights and outside in Alberta weather. If that sounds fine to you and you care about clean, tight work, keep reading.
This isn’t an hourly or salaried job. You’ll work as an independent subcontractor and get paid for every foot you install.
Pay
- $3.00 per installed foot to start
- You’re paid on production, so the faster and cleaner you work, the more you make
- Your rate can go up with experience, quality, reliability and performance
- Steady work for installers who show up
- Experienced installers usually do 150 to 200 feet a day, which is about $450 to $600 a day at the starting rate
- Earnings depend on your pace, how much work is available, how complex the job is and other factors. This is a subcontract role, not an hourly wage.
The work
- Installing permanent LED lighting on residential and commercial rooflines
- Working off ladders and on roofs
- Measuring and laying out runs, then installing to the job spec
- Mounting track, lights, wiring, power boxes and controllers
- Using ladders, power tools and install equipment safely
- Making sure every run is straight, secure, tidy and finished properly
- Leaving the site clean, every time
- Keeping the Horizon team posted on progress, questions and problems
- Representing Horizon well on customers’ properties
Who we’re looking for
- You’re comfortable and confident on roofs, ladders and at heights
- You’re handy with hand and power tools
- You can work outside in cold, wind and whatever else Alberta has that day
- You can lift and carry ladders, tools and materials all day
- You notice when something is a quarter inch off, and you fix it
- You show up when you said you would
- You can move fast without cutting corners
- You follow the install spec and the safety rules
- You’re respectful and professional around customers and their homes
Experience in exterior lighting, roofing, siding, soffit and fascia, eavestroughs, electrical, construction, telecom, solar or another exterior trade is a big plus.
Subcontractor requirements
Because this is a subcontract role, you’ll need to:
- Have a reliable vehicle that can carry ladders, tools and materials
- Supply and maintain your own tools and equipment
- Carry your own active WCB coverage
- Carry your own commercial general liability insurance
- Handle your own taxes, deductions, insurance and other obligations that come with running as an independent contractor
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
About Horizon
Horizon Exterior Solutions installs permanent LED lighting built for Alberta winters. It’s low-voltage, hidden in the roofline and meant to look like it came with the house. Our customers hang their Christmas lights once and never get on a ladder in January again. That only works if the install is done right, and that’s where you come in.
We want installers who want to work, take pride in what they put on a house, and get that quality and speed go together.
If you’re good at heights, know your tools, and would rather be paid for what you get done than for hours on the clock, send us your info.
