Original job description

Patient Transfer Driver

We respectfully acknowledge that we transfer patients upon the ancestral, traditional and unceded lands of the Coast Salish and Nlaka'pamux Nations. Hospital Transfers is committed to providing safe, respectful and caring service to all Indigenous people, and honours the unique cultures of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples living within the Fraser Salish and Vancouver Coastal regions. We thank these communities for allowing us to work on their unceded lands.

Do You Want Work That Fills a Purpose?

As a Patient Transfer Driver at Hospital Transfers, your role goes beyond driving. You are a skilled professional delivering safe, dignified care to patients who are counting on you. You won't sit behind a desk. You won't watch the clock. You'll be out in the community every day moving patients safely between hospitals, care facilities, and their homes across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley and making a real difference with every transfer.

If you are someone who genuinely cares about people, takes pride in doing things right, and wants a stable career in healthcare support, this role is made for you.

What You'll Do

Operate a Company vehicle safely and professionally, transporting medically stable patients who are counting on your skill, care, and judgment
Safely transfer medically stable patients between hospitals, care facilities, and residences throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley
Provide attentive "bed-to-bed" service transferring patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or stair chair alongside your partner
Reassure patients and families with a calm, compassionate presence at every step
Complete vehicle safety checks and maintain a clean, sanitary environment
Represent Hospital Transfers with professionalism and care to patients, families, Health Authorities, and partner institutions

Who You Are

Our Patient Transfer Drivers share these qualities:

Purpose-Driven - You want work that contributes to something meaningful
Compassionate - You naturally put people at ease and treat everyone with dignity and respect
Safety-Minded - You take patient safety seriously, every single transfer
Physically Capable - You are able to lift, push, and pull 250+ lbs using equipment with a partner
Reliable and Team-Oriented - Your team and our patients rely on you to show up and give your best
Values-Aligned - You lead with our four core values: Transparency, Humility, Empowerment, Courage

What You'll Need (Requirements)

Because we work directly with patients at their most vulnerable, our team meets the same professional standards as the healthcare facilities we serve:

Valid Class 4 BC Driver's Licence with at least 5 years' driving experience
Clean Driver's Abstract
Valid WorkSafe BC recognized Basic First Aid (or equivalent)
Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check (children and vulnerable adults)
Vaccinations in accordance with the Immunization Policy for Health Care Workers
Proof of first and second dose of Covid-19 vaccination (per Company policy)

Why Hospital Transfers

Competitive wage. Starting at $23.46 per hour, with progression to $28.15 per hour. Effective January 1, 2027, wage rates will increase. This is a unionized position under a collective agreement.
Permanent, full-time work in a stable industry
Scheduling that fits a 365-day operation. We operate 365 days a year with shifts between 5:00 am and midnight, with schedules that may include 5 days per week or 4 on/4 off. Shifts are assigned through the shift bid process under our collective agreement. We're looking for candidates who are flexible in their availability and ready to be part of a team that keeps healthcare moving around the clock.
A team environment. We support one another the same way we support our patients - with respect, compassion, and reliability.
Benefits. Eligible employees can participate in our Group Benefits Plan and Group RRSP Program because we invest in the people who care for our community.

How to Apply

All applications can be submitted online through our website.

We thank all those who apply, but only those selected for our next steps will be contacted.
