About Us
For more than 40 years, hpjv Solicitors has provided trusted legal advice to individuals and families across the local community and beyond. We have built a strong reputation for integrity, professionalism and exceptional client service, underpinned by our Lexcel and CQS accreditations. Our continued success is founded on the quality of our people, and we are committed to providing a professional, inclusive environment in which colleagues can develop their expertise, broaden their experience and progress their careers.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Legal Support Assistant to join our team in either Newport or Cardiff. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the efficient delivery of legal services while gaining valuable, hands-on experience within an established practice. You will work closely with experienced legal professionals, develop a strong understanding of legal processes and build transferable skills that can support your longer-term career progression within the legal sector.
Your Role and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
You will provide efficient, high-quality administrative support to our fee earners and contribute to the effective progression of matters. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting fee earners with case preparation, document production, file management and general administration.
- Producing accurate work by transcribing digital dictation and preparing legal documents and correspondence to a consistently high standard.
- Progressing matters efficiently through accurate filing, effective email management and timely case updates.
- Preparing court bundles and organising documentation to ensure it is complete, accurate and available when required.
- Using court portals to upload and download documents within prescribed timescales.
- Responding to enquiries from clients and colleagues in a professional and timely manner, whether in person, by telephone or by email.
- Managing diaries, including appointments, meetings and court dates, to support the effective organisation of the team.
- Maintaining organised records by scanning, photocopying, filing and preparing document bundles as required.
- Prioritising workload effectively to meet deadlines and maintain an up-to-date workflow.
- Supporting the wider team by providing appropriate cover during periods of high demand or colleague absence.
- Adhering to firm policies and procedures and undertaking other reasonable administrative duties as required.
The successful candidate will be dependable, professional and committed to providing a high standard of support. You will demonstrate:
- At least one year’s experience in secretarial work or legal administration; previous experience within a legal environment would be an advantage.
- Accurate and efficient audio typing and keyboard skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Clear communication skills and a confident, professional telephone manner.
- A client-focused approach and the ability to build positive working relationships.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and case management systems, or the ability to learn new technology quickly.
- A collaborative, flexible approach and a willingness to support colleagues.
- Initiative, attention to detail and enthusiasm for learning and improving processes.
In return, you will join a firm that recognises individual contribution and is committed to professional development. Our benefits include:
- Competitive salary based on experience.
- Flexible and hybrid working.
- Additional annual leave, increasing after one complete year of service.
- Training and development opportunities.
- Discounted legal services and selected products.
- Group life insurance.
- Employee Assistance Programme.
- Discounted gym membership.
- Health and wellbeing services.
To apply, please send your CV and a brief covering letter outlining your relevant experience, the strengths you would bring to the role and your interest in developing your career with hpjv Solicitors to amanda.davies@hpjv.co.uk.
