Original job description

In Canada, HSBC Global Services (Canada) Limited (HGCA) is a wholly owned subsidiary of HSBC Global Services Limited. Operating in Toronto, HGCA is part of a global service company, delivering services to support the operating entities of HSBC Group. We have different capabilities that provide tools and processes to facilitate the functions, business, and entities with their service management responsibilities.

Ready to build Financial Information eXchange (FIX) connectivity for our next-generation cash equities platform?

Why HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organizations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.

The Opportunity

As a Full Stack Developer in Corporate and Institutional Banking - Cash Equities you will join the Client and Market Connectivity team in Toronto, building strategic Financial Information eXchange (FIX) client-facing and market-facing connectivity for HSBC’s cash equities trading platform. This role sits at the core of the trade lifecycle - from client FIX messages through to execution on exchange - helping deliver a platform that becomes a central pillar of our future-state architecture. You will build event-based, high-throughput and low-latency components that support trading across Stocks, Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) and Swaps for internal and external clients. Working in an agile environment with highly automated deployment pipelines you will ship changes early and often to deliver business value. You will partner closely with product owners and business sponsors to shape priorities and maintain clear communication and expectations. Success means scalable architecture, strong engineering discipline and measurable improvements in test automation, deployment automation, and continuous delivery maturity.

What you'll be doing

Develop strategic Financial Information eXchange (FIX) client-facing and market-facing connectivity to meet cash equities business needs
Shape and implement low-latency Java and microservices solutions for real-time order management workloads
Build event-based, high-throughput components that support the cash equities trade lifecycle end-to-end
Partner with product owners and business sponsors to define requirements, align priorities and manage expectations
Improve test automation and deployment automation to increase release quality and speed
Advance continuous delivery maturity through stronger pipelines, tooling and engineering practices
Apply Linux or UNIX tooling to support development, diagnosis, and production support activities
Collaborate across a geographically distributed global team spanning multiple trading hubs

What we're looking for

Bring substantial hands-on software engineering experience with low-latency or real-time systems
Build and optimize Core Java and microservices designs for low-latency architectures including approaches such as Zero Garbage Collection (Zero GC)
Use the Linux or UNIX command line effectively in day-to-day engineering work
Apply strong working knowledge of the Financial Information eXchange (FIX) protocol and cash equities order flows including low touch (Direct Market Access (DMA), Direct Strategy Access (DSA)) and high touch (managed, Program Trading (PT))
Implement DevOps practices and tooling such as Groovy, Jenkins Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) plus logging, monitoring, and troubleshooting
Communicate effectively with Sales and Trading desks and internal technology teams, adjusting detail to the audience
Deliver across the full development lifecycle from requirements through implementation
Partner with business and IT stakeholders across a geographically distributed multi-cultural organization

Building the future trading stack

If you want your engineering work to sit directly on the path between clients and markets this role offers meaningful scale and impact. You will help shape a strategic connectivity platform that underpins HSBC’s next-generation cash equities architecture. You will work closely with trading stakeholders while engineering low-latency systems that must perform reliably under real market conditions. Apply to be part of a global team building the core components of our future platform.

In compliance with applicable laws, HSBC is committed to employing only those who are authorized to work in Canada. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada as HSBC will not engage in immigration sponsorship for this position.

As an HSBC employee, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities to ensure you have the right skills for today and tomorrow. At HSBC, our overall goal is to provide a competitive Total Reward Package, with an appropriate mix of fixed pay, and variable pay, as part of an employee’s overall total compensation and benefits. Variable pay generally takes the form of discretionary, annual awards (sometimes referred to as a “bonus”). Additionally, HSBC offers a wide range of competitive and flexible benefits designed to help you improve your health and well-being, finances, and lifestyle.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, race, national origin, ethnicity, disability or medical condition, genetic information, military or veteran service, religion, creed, sex, gender, pregnancy, childbirth, caregiver status, marital status, citizenship or immigration status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or any other trait protected by applicable law.

The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.
