Job Mandate
We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to join our specialized, tight-knit technical team. You will be responsible for implementing and supporting the server environments and networking hardware that drive our BAS/BMS solutions. Operating in a customer-facing capacity, you will work closely with teammates to deploy robust, scalable infrastructure, acting as a vital link between our technical capabilities and our clients' building automation needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Lifecycle & Operations
- System Stewardship: Monitor and maintain the server, storage, and network systems that underpin BAS/BMS technologies, ensuring maximum availability and high performance for critical building functions.
- Incident & Change Management: Manage the lifecycle of infrastructure components through formal incident, problem, and change management processes to minimize disruption to building operations.
- Proactive Maintenance: Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for high-impact infrastructure incidents and execute critical patches, firmware upgrades, and OS updates following strict change control protocols.
- Performance Optimization: Conduct regular infrastructure health checks, capacity planning, and performance tuning to ensure the network can scale with growing building automation needs.
- Resiliency & Recovery: Support disaster recovery and backup operations, including regular testing and optimization to protect critical building data and system integrity.
- Operational Continuity: Maintain meticulous system documentation, operational procedures, and configuration records to ensure the team can seamlessly support systems, including legacy environments and those built by other engineers.
Working Conditions & Travel:
- Work Model: A hybrid arrangement consisting of remote work and collaborative office environments.
- Office Environment: Our office is an open, collaborative space designed to foster teamwork (exact location may vary).
- Pace of Work: A dynamic, fast-paced environment where managing competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines is essential.
- On-Site Presence: This role requires regular travel to customer sites to support hardware deployment, infrastructure implementation, and on-site troubleshooting.
- Travel Requirements: Must have a valid passport and be willing to travel within Canada and the United States.
- Requirement: Reliable access to personal transportation is required for local site visits.
Project Implementation & Integration:
- Deployment & Delivery: Actively participate in internal and customer-facing projects, working within established PMLC and SDLC frameworks to ensure successful hardware and software rollouts.
- Automation & Innovation: Proactively identify and implement automation opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention in infrastructure management.
- First & Second-Level Support: Rapidly respond to monitoring alerts and perform advanced troubleshooting to resolve connectivity and performance issues within the BAS/BMS ecosystem.
Client & Team Collaboration:
- Customer Engagement: Act as a technical point of contact for clients, translating complex infrastructure requirements into clear, actionable information for non-technical stakeholders.
- Cross-Functional Synergy: Collaborate closely with a small, agile team and across various departments (e.g., application support, security, and DevOps) to resolve complex, cross-functional technical issues.
- On-Call Support: Participate in an on-call rotation to provide essential after-hours support, ensuring the stability of mission-critical building systems.
What Success Looks Like in this Role:
- Reliable Infrastructure: Stable and resilient network and server operations that ensure uninterrupted BAS/BMS functionality.
- Service Excellence: Timely resolution of incidents and service requests, maintaining high client satisfaction.
- Operational Accuracy: Detailed and up-to-date technical documentation that allows the small team to scale and troubleshoot effectively.
- Project Success: Successful delivery of infrastructure components for new client sites and system upgrades.
- Continuous Evolution: Demonstrated growth in both technical design and your ability to manage complex, integrated smart-building ecosystems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in project implementation or site-based infrastructure rollouts.
- Experience with network monitoring tools and logging systems to proactively manage building system health.
- Basic scripting or automation skills (e.g., Python, Bash) to streamline repetitive infrastructure tasks.
- Relevant certifications (or working toward):
- Fortinet NSE (or equivalent)
- Cisco CCNA
- MikroTik MTCNA
Key Competencies:
- Client-Centric Mindset: The ability to represent the engineering team in customer-facing environments and simplify complex technical infrastructure concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborative Spirit: A desire to thrive within a small, agile team, contributing to collective goals and supporting teammates through cross-functional collaboration.
- Analytical Problem-Solving: Strategic thinking to troubleshoot complex connectivity issues between IT networks and BAS/BMS hardware.
- Operational Excellence: A disciplined approach to deployment, ensuring all infrastructure is stable, secure, and scalable.
Technical Requirements:
Experience & Core Expertise
- 2–5 years of experience in network engineering and/or infrastructure support, ideally within integrated technology environments.
- Hands-on deployment and support experience with:
- Fortinet (FortiGate firewalls)
- MikroTik (Routing and switching)
- Cisco (Routing and switching)
- Dell Servers &. Storage
- Virtualized & Containerized Systems
- Deep technical understanding of the protocols that power connected building environments:
- TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP
- Advanced Routing and Switching (VLANs, Subnets, NAT, ACLs)
- VPN technologies (IPSec, SSL VPN) for secure remote site access.
- Proficiency in network troubleshooting tools and methodologies to maintain high uptime for critical BAS/BMS systems.
