Original job description

Huawei Canada has an immediate 12-month contract opening for a Professor.

About the team:

Welcome to the Advanced Wireless Technology Wireless Lab, an epitome of innovation located in Ottawa, Canada. Here, amid the dynamic panorama of technological progress, our team consists mainly of seasoned graduate computer engineers and computer scientists. With diverse experiences ranging from fresh perspectives to decades-long industry immersion, we are united by our fervour for pioneering wireless solutions.

About the job:

  • Provide expert technical consulting on advanced photonic device technologies for Radio-over-Fiber (RoF), mmWave, and sub-THz wireless communication systems.

  • Conduct research and technical evaluation of next-generation surface-emitting DFB laser technologies to enable low-power, high-density RoF architectures.

  • Assess the feasibility and performance of optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) technologies for low phase-noise mmWave and sub-THz signal generation.

  • Investigate tunable injection-locked CW laser architectures and optical heterodyne techniques for high-frequency wireless applications.

  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to tunable DML laser technologies and high-power photodiode solutions to enhance system performance.

  • Deliver technical analyses, research findings, technical reports, invention disclosures, and patent contributions in support of project objectives.

  • Provide technical recommendations during design reviews and collaborate with project teams to address key technical challenges and guide technology development.

  • Support the AiM-RF project by prioritizing research activities on high-density, low-power surface-emitting DFB laser technology as the initial consulting focus.

About the ideal candidate:

  • PhD in Wireless Communication or related with strong academic background and extensive experience in the design of photonic active devices to support the development of novel DMLs.

  • A deep understanding and practical experience in manufacturing processes are necessary to ensure the feasibility and effectiveness of the designs.

  • Possess expertise in the RF and microwave fields to advance microwave-photonic technologies for wireless applications.

Additional Information:

Huawei Canada is committed to a fair, inclusive, and accessible recruitment process. If you require accommodation during any stage of the hiring process, please let us know and we will work with you to meet your needs.

All applications for this position are reviewed directly by our hiring team, we do not use artificial intelligence tools to screen or select candidates.
