Hughes Collective is pleased to present an exciting opportunity on behalf of our client.

Position Title: Mechanical Engineering Lead

Location: Northern Saskatchewan

Reporting to: to be confirmed

Schedule: Rotational, site-based

Our Client

Denison Mines is redefining what uranium mining can be. Their projects fuel the world’s demand for clean energy while proving that resource development can be innovative, responsible, and deeply connected to community.

Denison will be the first in Canada to adopt ISR mining for uranium; demonstrating that mining can be cleaner, lower-impact, and more sustainable. They continue to pioneer new technologies, minimize environmental impact and build Indigenous partnerships regarded among the strongest in the industry.

What sets Denison apart is its culture: human, hands-on, hard-working, and high-performing. Leaders know their people, check in often, and roll up their sleeves alongside the team. Employees describe the workplace as welcoming and energetic, with a shared pride in doing things better.

Above all, Denison’s people know their work matters. They are driving climate solutions, advancing projects with integrity, and proving that mining can deliver not just energy; but a better future.

This is your chance to be part of building something new and at the forefront of Canada’s uranium industry; are you ready to lead?

The Opportunity

As Mechanical Engineering Lead, you'll be bringing years of engineering experience to the table at a time when the details count. Equipment specifications, mechanical designs, vendor submissions and technical recommendations will all need an experienced set of eyes. You'll be challenging assumptions, questioning solutions and making sure the engineering firms and suppliers delivering the work meet Denison's expectations for safety, quality, cost and schedule.

There is plenty of engineering ahead, and you'll be involved as Wheeler River progresses through procurement, construction and commissioning. You'll provide technical direction, help others develop their engineering capabilities and see the results of decisions made well before equipment reaches site. For someone who enjoys solving engineering problems and wants to see a major project through to operation, Wheeler River has a lot to offer.

Key Responsibilities

As the Mechanical Engineering Lead, you will work collaboratively and are responsible for:

1. Mechanical Engineering Leadership

  • Lead mechanical engineering activities for the Wheeler River Project, ensuring work meets established safety, quality, cost and schedule requirements.
  • Provide technical direction on mechanical engineering strategy, design standards, processes and project plans.
  • Evaluate engineering decisions and proposed technical solutions to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to project personnel on mechanical design, engineering methods, applicable codes and standards.
  • Act as Technical Authority when assigned.

2. Engineering Coordination & Technical Assurance

  • Coordinate mechanical engineering activities with Denison's Project Team, engineering contractors and other technical disciplines.
  • Review mechanical engineering deliverables prepared by external engineering firms, vendors and service providers, providing technical assurance against project requirements.
  • Work across engineering disciplines to address technical issues and ensure engineering activities remain aligned with project requirements.
  • Monitor engineering deliverables against established scope, cost, schedule, quality and value requirements.

3. Equipment, Procurement & Vendor Engineering

  • Support the development and review of mechanical equipment specifications and associated technical requirements.
  • Participate in equipment procurement, vendor engineering and design review activities.
  • Review vendor technical documentation, assess proposed equipment solutions and help resolve technical concerns.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors, engineering contractors and service providers to support mechanical engineering requirements through procurement, construction and commissioning.
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with equipment vendors and technical partners.

4. Risk & Technical Review

  • Participate in HAZOPs, risk assessments and other formal engineering review activities.
  • Identify mechanical engineering risks, evaluate proposed solutions and provide technical recommendations to support safe, informed project decisions.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

The Essentials (Hard Skills):

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan.
  • 7+ years of progressive mechanical engineering and/or engineering leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering practices, mechanical design processes, applicable codes and engineering standards.
  • Demonstrated experience across the mechanical equipment design lifecycle, including specifications, procurement, vendor engineering and design reviews.
  • Experience providing technical direction, reviewing engineering deliverables and coordinating work with engineering consultants, contractors and equipment vendors.
  • Experience supporting major projects through engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with engineering risk assessments, HAZOPs and formal technical review processes.
  • Experience in uranium, mining, heavy industrial or comparable engineering environments is considered an asset.

The Intangibles (Soft Skills):

  • Effective communicator who can convey technical information clearly and collaborate across engineering disciplines and project teams.
  • Confident technical leader with the ability to evaluate engineering work, challenge assumptions and provide well-reasoned recommendations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess technical issues and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to establish productive working relationships with engineering consultants, contractors, vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Organized and adaptable, with the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, cost and schedule.
  • Collaborative leadership style with a willingness to mentor others, share technical expertise and remain actively involved in engineering work.

What Our Client Offers

  • Competitive Compensation – A comprehensive total rewards package that includes base compensation, annual bonus, equity awards, retirement contributions and benefits, recognizing both your technical expertise and contributions to Denison's projects.
  • Comprehensive Benefits – 100% employer-paid premiums for health, dental, life, and disability, plus a health spending account and generous paramedical coverage.
  • Flexible Retirement Support – Denison contributes from day one with no employee contribution required. Contributions increase as your age and years of service increase. Receive contributions as cash, invest through the group RRSP, or manage them independently.
  • Growth & Development – Work across a major uranium project as it progresses through engineering, construction and commissioning, with continued investment in professional development and technical leadership.
  • Culture of Doers – Work with a team where leaders roll up their sleeves, standards are high, and initiative is encouraged. Expect collaboration, approachability, and the freedom to solve problems in new ways.
  • Advancing Canada's Clean Energy Future – Contribute to Denison's pioneering use of ISR mining technology and its commitment to responsible uranium development and strong Indigenous partnerships.
