Original job description

Data Loss Prevention Security Analyst

Halifax (Hybrid-2 days in office)

Our client a dynamic Information Technology services company that partners with leading global organizations to deliver innovative, high-quality IT solutions is looking for a Data Loss Prevention Security Analyst to join their growing team.

The Data Loss Prevention Security Analyst will support the implementation, configuration and ongoing maintenance of data classification and data loss prevention technologies, contributing to a function that is still in the early stages of its development.

This is not a traditional data protection or privacy role. Whilst an understanding of relevant regulations is important, the focus of this position is firmly on technical data security controls, technology implementation and risk management.

The right candidate will be practically minded and willing to get into the detail of the tooling and processes that underpin the capability. This is not a passive role and the Data Security Analyst will be expected to take clear ownership of their workstreams, work independently where appropriate and look for opportunities to add value to enhance this capability.

Responsibilities

• Technology Implementation: Support the deployment and configuration of data classification and DLP technologies, working closely with the Senior Data Loss Prevention Security Analyst and IT Engineering teams. Assist with the configuration of policy rules, alerting thresholds and enforcement actions, contributing to the ongoing effort to reduce false positive rates and improve signal quality.

• Business Analysis and Data Discovery: Support data flow mapping and discovery exercises with business stakeholders, helping to document findings clearly and accurately. Develop a working understanding of business processes and data flows, ensuring that context informs the controls being configured and maintained.

• Risk Reporting and Data Insights: Contribute to the production of data-driven risk reporting at an operational level, providing evidence-backed insight on data exposure. Outputs should be accurate, timely and useful to those receiving them.

• Regulatory Awareness: Maintain working knowledge of data protection and privacy regulations, including UK GDPR and relevant global frameworks, applied through a practical information security lens to inform day-to-day work.

• Collaboration: Work constructively with the wider Information Security function, including Security Operations and GRC, ensuring data security activity is joined up and supports the broader risk and assurance picture.

• Awareness and Education: Support the development and delivery of data classification and data handling training, helping users understand their responsibilities in a clear and accessible way.

• Automation and Innovation: Identify opportunities to reduce repetitive or manual effort within the capability, leveraging AI and automation to contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

• Capability Evolution: Actively support the growth and evolution of the Data Loss Prevention Security capability, taking on increasing responsibility as the function matures and demonstrating the appetite to develop alongside it.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience working with DLP or data classification technologies, either in a dedicated data security role or as a meaningful part of a broader information security position.
  • Practical understanding of data security controls, including how policy rules, alerting and enforcement actions are configured and maintained.
  • Some exposure to data discovery or data flow mapping activity, with the ability to document findings clearly and in a format that is useful to others.
  • Working knowledge of data protection and privacy regulations, such as GDPR and relevant global frameworks, applied through a practical information security lens.
  • A solid grounding in information security concepts, with enough understanding to engage credibly with Information Security and IT colleagues.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings in a way that is accessible to a non-technical audience.
  • A proactive approach to work, with the ability to manage assigned workstreams independently and take initiative without always waiting to be directed.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team. The company offers a competitive compensation package, medical & health benefits and RRSP matching.

If this sounds like the ideal position for you then apply today!
