Original job description

People find people. That’s the whole idea behind Humans of HR. We are a proudly Canadian-owned search firm, and we partner with some of the country’s most respected organizations and exceptional talent to deliver searches that are thoughtful, strategic, and built to endure. We believe recruitment is never just about filling a role - it’s about aligning people, purpose, and performance in a way that drives lasting impact. With a refreshed brand and a continued commitment to excellence, our work is grounded in discretion, care, and the understanding that behind every hire is a human story.

The People You’d Join
Our client is a well-established Canadian organization with a unionized workforce across several sites. Their payroll team is small and close-knit, and they are in the middle of moving to ADP, so this is a chance to be part of a project that will shape how payroll runs for years to come.

The Work You’d Own
This is a 13-month contract reporting to the Payroll Manager. You’ll keep regular payroll running smoothly while helping the team roll out ADP across the organization.

Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees, including unionized staff
Enter new hires, terminations, rate changes, deductions and ROEs
Reconcile payroll filings, including benefits, WCB and source deductions
Support payroll journal entries and month-end and year-end reporting
Help with benefits enrolments, changes and terminations
Support the ADP implementation, including data checks, testing and fixing issues as they come up
Write procedures and training materials, and help train staff on the new system
Back up the payroll team and answer employee payroll questions

The Human We’re Looking For

3–4+ years of Canadian payroll experience
PCP designation (required)
Experience with union payroll and collective agreements
Exposure to a payroll system implementation, ideally ADP
Strong Excel skills and a sharp eye for detail
Comfortable with confidential information and calm when deadlines stack up

Where and How You’d Work
Hybrid, based in Burnaby, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the office. There may be some extra hours during the busier stages of the project.

The Full Picture on Pay

Salary of $70,000 – $78,000 for the 13-month contract
Health and dental coverage
Transit allowance available

Why We Like This One
Contracts like this are a great way to add real implementation experience to your resume. You’ll work alongside a hands-on Payroll Manager, learn ADP from the ground up, and leave with skills that are in high demand across BC.

Your Next Step
If this opportunity resonates, we’d love to hear from you. Every application is read by a real person on our team, and if there’s a fit, we’ll reach out to talk about the role and what matters to you in your next move. Everything you share stays confidential, and nothing goes to our client without your consent. We believe hiring works best when it’s done with care and intention, and that starts with you.

In your corner, every step of the way.

Not quite the right role for you? We’re always working on new searches, so stay in touch. And if you’re an employer looking to grow your team, we’d be glad to help. Follow Humans of HR on LinkedIn and Instagram (@humansofhr.ca), or visit humansofhr.ca to see what’s new.
