Original job description
Humans of HR is an upcoming boutique recruitment agency in Vancouver and is very quickly becoming the go-to agency for hiring and placement of skilled corporate professionals. Combined with our vast network and extraordinary customer-centric approach, we are the obvious choice in helping you find your next home.
We’re recruiting on behalf of a well-established client in the Fraser Valley, for a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join their HR and Finance team. This is a hybrid position, but for the right candidate it could possibly become remote after training.
This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in getting every pay run right and enjoys being the go-to person employees trust with their pay and benefits questions. You’ll own the full-cycle payroll process while helping keep benefits administration running smoothly behind the scenes.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accurate, timely full-cycle payroll for salaried and hourly employees
- Maintain employee records in the payroll system, including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay, deductions, and status
- Administer group benefits enrolments, changes, and terminations, and reconcile monthly carrier invoices
- Prepare and issue Records of Employment, T4s, and year-end reporting
- Ensure compliance with CRA requirements, BC Employment Standards, and other applicable legislation
- Handle statutory remittances, garnishments, and third-party deductions
- Track and reconcile vacation, sick time, and leave balances
- Support leaves of absence, including disability claims and return-to-work coordination with carriers
- Answer employee payroll and benefits questions with care and discretion
- Prepare payroll reports and journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts with Finance
- Identify opportunities to tidy up processes and improve accuracy
What You Bring
- 3+ years of full-cycle Canadian payroll experience, ideally including benefits administration
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation, or working toward it
- Solid knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and year-end processes
- Experience with payroll systems such as Ceridian Dayforce, ADP, UKG, or similar, and strong Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage recurring deadlines
- Clear, approachable communication style and sound judgement with confidential information
- Experience with unionized or multi-province payroll is an asset
What’s on Offer
- A stable, well-established organization with a supportive team culture
- Comprehensive benefits package
- Opportunities for professional development, including support toward payroll designations
- A role where your work has a direct, visible impact on employees across the business
- The chance to live and work in the Fraser Valley without the Vancouver commute
At Humans of HR, we support the development and growth of our candidates to reach their full potential. If you are thinking about your next career move and the above role is just the right fit, please send us your resume along with a cover letter in confidence and one of our consultants will be in touch for a confidential discussion.
