Position Title: Design Specialist
Status: Full-Time, Support
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Faculty/Department: Faculty of Media, Creative Arts, and Design
Campus/Location: North Campus
Salary: Pay band H
Salary Range: $38.09 (min) - $44.04 (max) per hour
Starting Salary: $38.09; Progression through the pay band is in accordance with the increments in the pay band as outline in the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement based on actual service in the pay band
About the Faculty of Media, Creative Arts, and Design at Humber:
Humber’s Faculty of Media, Creative Arts, and Design offers the most comprehensive mix of media, arts and communications programs in Canada. About the Design Specialist Role:
The Design Specialist will provide specialized technical and instructional support to students, faculty, and academic activities across the Design programs within the Faculty of Media, Creative Arts, and Design, including Interior Design, Industrial Design, Bachelor of Design UX, Interior Decorating Diploma, Graphic Design Advanced Diploma, and other design-adjacent programs.
The position supports student learning by delivering demonstrations, technical instruction, critiques, and guidance related to design processes, materials, fabrication methods, equipment, software applications, industry standards, and studio practices. The incumbent will assist faculty in maintaining effective learning environments, support technology-enhanced teaching and learning, manage and develop design resources and materials, and contribute to program recruitment, outreach, and student engagement activities.

Education:
- 3-year diploma/degree or equivalent in drafting, detailing, construction, fabrication, Ontario Building Code, and any other related fields of study.
Experience/Skills:
o work on their own initiative;
o initiate and maintain ongoing verbal and written communication with administrators, faculty, support staff and students;
o work in a team environment, demonstrating excellent human relation skills;
o work under pressure, be well organized and exhibit time management skills.
Demonstrable skills in drawing, sketching and drafting.
Documented or demonstrable skills in computer software related to the design disciplines. Examples include: Adobe suite, AutoCAD, Revit, Solidworks, Enscape, Twinmotion, Sketchup.
