Original job description
About Us
Hybrid Building Logistics (HBL) designs and builds portable steel electrical buildings (E-Houses) for utilities, energy storage, and industrial clients across Canada. We are also a full structural steel fabrication shop, so the drawings you produce here don't sit in a folder. They go straight to our welders and fitters, then out to the client and the job site. You'll work closely with clients, engineering, and the shop floor, and you'll see your work built a few steps from your desk. Our design work covers structural, architectural, and electrical drawings, and we are moving our drawing standards into Revit. If you know Revit and want to help shape how a growing team works, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do
- Produce complete drawing packages for E-House buildings and structural steel projects across structural, architectural, and electrical disciplines: general arrangements, framing, floor and roof plans, elevations, sections, and electrical layouts
- Create shop fabrication drawings, including assembly and piece drawings, cut lists, weld callouts, and bills of material
- Prepare foundation and pier layouts, crane lift and rigging drawings, and stair, landing, and platform details
- Coordinate equipment and panel layouts with client electrical drawings and specifications (HVAC, lighting, cable entry, NEMA-rated enclosures)
- Prepare electrical layouts, including equipment and panel arrangements, cable tray and conduit routing, lighting, and grounding plans
- Update drawings as client specs move from preliminary to issued-for-construction, and keep revisions, transmittals, and drawing registers clean and current
- Prepare packages for review and seal by the engineer of record, then track comments to close-out
- Support quoting with material takeoffs, panel and building weight estimates, and early layout studies
- Procure materials for your designs, placing and tracking purchase orders with suppliers through QuickBooks
- Self-check every package before it leaves your hands, and work with the shop to answer questions and correct issues quickly
- Help move our drawing work from AutoCAD to Revit, including templates, families, and drawing standards
What You Bring
The most important quality we look for is attitude. We are building a culture of continuous improvement, and we want people who are always looking to get better: people who ask questions, take feedback well, learn from mistakes, and look for better ways to do the work. Skills can be taught; the drive to improve is what sets the right candidate apart.
- Diploma or degree in Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience
- Experience in structural steel, metal buildings, modular buildings, or industrial fabrication is an asset. Recent graduates with strong Revit skills are encouraged to apply
- Strong Revit and AutoCAD skills (Revit is where our design work is headed)
- Working knowledge of steel shapes, connections, and welding symbols; familiarity with CSA S16, CSA W59, and the Ontario Building Code is an asset
- The ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and civil drawings and specifications
- Experience preparing electrical layouts (panel and equipment arrangements, cable tray, lighting, grounding) is an asset
- Real attention to detail: you catch your own errors before someone else does, and you use checklists because they work
- Comfortable walking the shop floor, measuring, and talking through a detail with a fitter
- Clear written communication with clients, engineers, and suppliers
Why HBL
- You'll see projects from first sketch to a finished building leaving the yard
- Small team, direct access to management, and real input on how we design and build
- A chance to help shape our move to Revit and set the drawing standards we use going forward
- Variety: E-Houses, energy storage, access-controlled sites, and custom steel
- Compensation: $52,000 to $65,500 per year, based on experience
Schedule
- Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, on-site at our Mississauga facility
- Occasional extended hours around project deadlines
- Regular time on the shop floor; CSA-approved safety footwear is required
Benefits
- Group health and dental benefits after a 3-month probationary period
- 2 weeks paid vacation
- Support toward C.Tech or C.E.T. certification (OACETT) if interested
- Annual safety footwear allowance
- Free on-site parking
How to Apply
Apply through LinkedIn with your resume. Including 2 or 3 sample drawings (shop or fabrication drawings preferred) in the same PDF is strongly encouraged.
