Your Mission
As a Lead Mechanical Engineer at Hydrostor, you will serve as a technical authority for stationary mechanical equipment across our long‑duration energy storage facilities. This role provides oversight to the mechanical design, specification, and quality of mechanical balance of plant and static systems, including heat exchangers, tanks, piping, and associated stationary equipment. You will also support rotating equipment on an as-needed basis.
You will act as the mechanical product representative for Hydrostor’s equipment portfolio, ensuring designs are robust, manufacturable, and compliant with applicable codes and standards. This role plays a critical part in safeguarding quality as Hydrostor partners with external engineering firms, vendors, and EPC/Ms, initiating and overseeing engineering quality control and assurance activities to ensure consistent execution across projects.
Your work will directly influence the performance, reliability, safety, and lifecycle cost of Hydrostor’s facilities, positioning this role as a cornerstone of our technical engineering organization.
Your Day-to-Day Adventures
- Serve as Lead Mechanical Engineer for stationery and balance of plant mechanical equipment across Hydrostor projects
- Provide technical oversight to the mechanical design and technical direction for static equipment, including heat exchangers, pressure vessels, tanks, piping systems, and associated supports
- Act as the mechanical product representative for Hydrostor’s equipment, defining standards, specifications, and technical requirements
- Develop and maintain mechanical design criteria, specifications, datasheets, drawings, and calculations for stationary equipment
- Lead mechanical inputs through the full lifecycle, from concept development and FEED through detailed design, procurement, construction, and commissioning
- Initiate and oversee engineering quality control and quality assurance activities, ensuring internal designs and externally delivered work meet Hydrostor standards
- Review and approve mechanical deliverables from external engineering partners, vendors, and EPC/Ms, providing clear technical direction and resolution of issues
- Collaborate closely with process, civil, structural, electrical, mining and project engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems
- Provide technical support during procurement, including vendor evaluations, technical bid reviews, and equipment selection
- Support construction and commissioning by addressing field issues, deviations, and design changes related to stationary equipment
- Apply systems thinking to understand how mechanical equipment interacts with the overall ACAES system and plant performance
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert (SME) for stationary mechanical systems, supporting internal teams and representing Hydrostor in technical discussions with partners and regulators
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of mechanical standards, lessons learned, and best practices across projects
- Provide rotating equipment knowledge in support of the Lead Mechanical Engineer - Rotating
Who You Are
We are seeking an experienced mechanical engineer with deep expertise in stationary equipment and balance of plant systems for industrial or energy facilities. You are a confident technical leader who enjoys owning complex mechanical scopes and acting as the final technical authority, while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.
You thrive in environments where quality, rigor, and technical judgment matter, and you are comfortable reviewing and directing work performed by external partners. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical leadership and product ownership and who takes pride in building reliable, high‑quality engineering solutions.
What You Bring
- 12+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience in industrial, energy, or power generation facilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
- Deep expertise in stationary/static mechanical equipment, including heat exchangers, tanks, pressure vessels, piping, and balance‑of‑plant systems
- Demonstrated experience acting as a technical lead or SME for mechanical equipment scopes on large, complex projects
- Strong understanding of mechanical design codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, applicable piping and pressure vessel codes)
- Proven ability to initiate and oversee engineering quality control and assurance, including review of external engineering and vendor deliverables
- Experience working with EPC/Ms, engineering consultants, and equipment suppliers, including technical bid evaluations and vendor oversight
- Strong systems thinking capability and understanding of how mechanical equipment interfaces with process, civil, electrical and structural systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical requirements and decisions
- Proven success delivering high‑quality engineering solutions in fast‑paced, project‑driven environments
- Proficiency with mechanical design, documentation, and review tools commonly used in industrial engineering environments
- Professional Engineering designation (P.E., P.Eng or C.Eng) is considered an asset
Compensation Details
- $150,000 – $190,000 base salary
