Accountant – Job Posting

We own and manage a diverse portfolio of multi‑family rental properties and development properties. This full-time accounting position is based in Abbotsford, BC. While the role is primarily performed in the office, HyLand offers workplace flexibility, including the opportunity for partial remote work where appropriate.
The Accountant plays a significant role in performing accounting duties relating to our Development companies including assisting with financing related requirements. Additionally, the Accountant will assist with our Group financial consolidation process, Board reporting packages, use of AI to streamline processes and become an expert in our financial software systems. The Accountant will also be an integral part of preparing year-end files for our external accounting firm review.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Reporting to the CFO, the successful candidate will work well in a fast‑paced, paperless environment as part of a technologically driven finance team. The Accountant will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting continuous process improvement across the organization. Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
• Preparation of month‑end and year‑end financial statements and analytical procedures, including assisting our external accounting firm at year-end to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
• Full G/L entries, reconciliations and financial analysis for various companies in the Group, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies
• Preparation of bank reconciliations for various bank accounts
• Balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations, including investigation and timely resolution of variances
• Month‑end journal entries and processes such as accruals, amortizations, and adjustments
• Preparation and filing of GST & WorkSafe returns and ensuring compliance with all statutory deadlines
• Payroll processing, including benefits administration and reconciliation as required
• Preparation of financial packages for Board reporting, including consolidated financials
• Preparation of Lender Reporting packages
• Support other departments with their enquiries by providing financial insights and ensuring the accuracy of financial data used in decision‑making
• Other related duties as assigned by the CFO and/or Controller, including participation in system upgrades, process enhancements, and special projects
Required Qualifications:
• Business degree with a major in accounting preferred; an accounting designation (CPA, or working toward CPA) is considered an asset
• Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience, preferably in a multi‑company environment
• Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Professional communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to manage a high workload with excellent time management and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines
• Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a strong sense of personal responsibility and reliability
• Ability and desire to work as part of a team while also demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently when required
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with AI tools, AI-assisted financial analysis, or data modelling (Power BI) is an asset.
• Experience with Yardi Property Management software and/or property management/property development industry experience is an advantage.
