Commercial Construction Estimator

The Commercial Construction Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Mississauga/Greater
Toronto Area, ON. This position is responsible for driving the bidding process for public/municipal
tenders, structural packages, and commercial fit-outs.The Estimator will review architectural and
structural drawings, perform precise digital takeoffs using industry-standard estimating software, and
compile thorough line-item bid proposals. You will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Site
Supervisors, municipal authorities, subcontractors, and vendors to clarify scope, verify pricing, and
ensure total bid accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
● Digital Takeoffs & Bidding: Perform accurate quantity takeoffs and build detailed cost
estimates using dedicated estimating software and spreadsheet modeling.
● Public & Municipal Tenders: Analyze tender packages, scope documents, and addenda for
bonded city jobs, public works, and municipal RFP submissions.
● Core Scope Focus: Prepare detailed estimates for concrete foundations, structural steel
framing, and commercial interior fit-outs (excluding heavy civil/roadwork).
● Subcontractor Management: Solicit, analyze, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier
quotes to ensure complete scope coverage and competitive pricing.
● Cost Control & Value Engineering: Participate in pre-construction alignment, offer
budget-optimization strategies, and transition winning bids smoothly to PM teams for
execution.
Qualifications
● Estimating & Drawing Expertise: Proven track record estimating commercial and public
works projects, with advanced ability to read structural, architectural, and MEP drawings.
● Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with construction estimating software (e.g.,
PlanSwift, Bluebeam, On-Center/OST) and MS Excel.
● Scope Knowledge: Deep understanding of commercial construction methods, structural
steel, concrete/foundations, and interior fit-out scope assemblies.
● Bonded Job Familiarity: Knowledge of local GTA building codes, municipal bidding protocols,
and public tender processes.
● Communication & Detail: Excellent negotiation and presentation skills with an analytical
mindset capable of meeting strict tender deadlines.
● Background: Post-secondary diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil
Engineering, Architectural Technology, or equivalent practical field experience.
● Asset: Prior dual experience in project management or field execution within the GTA
market.
