Steeplejack Supervisor – Industrial Stack Repair Supervisor
This is full-time, travelling role. You'll lead crews on sites all across Canada, away from home for a few days to a few weeks at a time. Due to the nature of the repairs we do (concrete repairs, brick repointing, coatings, etc) – our company is seasonal, so from March to December we are verry busy. It's a long, demanding, well-paid season, followed by a real winter break to rest, travel or do whatever you like. If extended time away doesn't fit your life right now, this isn't the role for you. If it does, read on.
ICM Inc. inspects, engineers and restores industrial stacks, chimneys, silos and similar access-challenged structures for major industrial clients across Canada. We're looking for an experienced supervisor to run our crews in the field. This is the person our clients see on site and the person our crews look to.
Pay & Perks
- Salary based on experience, and is commensurate with industry standards.
- Tax-free daily per diem, paid travel and accommodation.
- Full-time through the main season (March–December), with winter work available for those who want it. Many of our long-term crew use the winter to rest and recharge.
- Real authority on site, plus support from our in-house engineering team.
What You'll Do
- Run crews of [3–5] on “access-challenged” assets such as emissions stacks, silos, flares, bunker structures and the like.
- Plan and oversee access and rigging: ladders, rope access, bosun's chairs, swing stages, scaffolding, engineered work platforms, man lifts and cranes. Access systems are the key to our work.
- Own site safety: daily tailgates, JHAs, fall protection and rescue plans, confined space entry.
- Make sure work is built to spec. That covers concrete, brick and steel repairs, coatings (including DFT checks), structural steel, guy wires and lightning protection.
- Train and mentor technicians and lead hands, and spot who's ready to move up.
You Must Have (Required)
- 5+ years of hands-on work on industrial stacks, chimneys, silos or similar high-access structures, as a steeplejack, rope access tech or high-access repair tradesperson
- 2+ years leading or supervising crews in the field – specifically in steeplejack or rope access trades.
- Strong rigging knowledge and sound judgment working at height
- The ability to read drawings and specifications and hold the crew to them
- Comfort writing clear daily reports and dealing directly with clients
- Willingness to travel and be away from home for extended periods
- Ability to climb to 500+ ft and work outdoors in all conditions
- ICM is open to foreign applicants who have relevant experience only.
Strongly Preferred
- IRATA or SPRAT certifications a plus (but not required)
- Working at Heights (Ontario MOL), confined space, rope rescue, swing stage, scaffold
- Experience at heavy industrial sites – in particular during shutdowns.
- Other certifications such as welding (CWB), NDE inspections (CGSB etc), coatings (NACE), etc are highly valued.
- Valid G licence with a clean abstract
Why ICM
Clients have called our crews "the special forces of the trades." As supervisor, you'll be the one running the show on some of the most challenging access jobs in the country, with engineering backup and a crew that counts on you.
To apply: Answer the screening questions and send a short summary of two or three stack or high-access projects you've led. Include the structure type and height, the scope, and your crew size. Applications without this won't be reviewed.
