Manager, Property Accounting

Full-time, 12-month contract

Calgary, AB

ICM Property Services is a full-service Property Management firm offering services for all commercial real estate, multifamily, and commercial condominium properties. We have in-house maintenance personnel able to handle any maintenance issues on any property. As well as a diverse staff that handle day-to-day operations and marketing. We are RECA licensed and offer services in throughout Canada. The Manager, Property Accounting will oversee budgeting, forecasting, reporting of the portfolio of properties.

The Manager, Property Accounting must be a good team player, have an enthusiasm and interest in property accounting, possess a desire to take on new challenges and lead their team, and meet time sensitive deadlines. We are looking for someone with minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in accounting/real estate to join on a 12 month contract, with the possibility to extend. The successful candidate will be expected to have strong Excel skills and be able to conduct detailed review and analysis on reporting. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all managed properties
Analyze financial performance and variances to provide actionable insights to senior leadership
Ensure compliance with IFRS, and other regulatory standards applicable to property accounting
Lead and mentor the property accounting team, fostering a culture of collaboration, professional growth, and high performance
Manage the hiring, training, and development of accounting staff to meet operational needs
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback
Develop and manage property budgets in collaboration with the property management team
Monitor budget performance, identify variances, and implement corrective actions where necessary
Prepare and present long-term financial forecasts and projections for portfolio assets
Supervise day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance
Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close processes
Ensure timely and accurate completion of tenant billing and CAM (common area maintenance) reconciliations
Ensure compliance with tax laws, lease agreements, and other regulatory requirements related to property accounting
Develop and enforce robust internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company and client assets
Coordinate audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings
Evaluate and enhance accounting systems and tools to streamline processes and improve efficiency
Lead the implementation of technology solutions to optimize financial reporting and data analysis
Collaborate with IT and other departments on system integrations and upgrades
Act as the primary liaison for accounting-related inquiries from internal and external stakeholders, including property owners, tenants, and auditors
Present financial results, budgets, and key metrics to senior leadership and property owners
Support strategic decision-making by providing accurate and timely financial data
Any other tasks that the management team may request of the Manager, Property Accounting

Qualifications:

Advanced understanding of residential and commercial property accounting
Have a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in finance
Minimum of 5 years of finance related experience. Real estate education and experience considered a strong asset
Experience in supervising/leading a team
A hard worker and willing to learn new skills
Able to demonstrate excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask to meet deadlines
Have excellent written and oral communication skills
Able to establish and maintain positive working relationships
Able to work independently and as a team member
Knowledgeable in MS Office, advanced excel and willing to learn new skills and software
Experience with Yardi is a plus
Development and construction experience an asset
