Original job description

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the safe, successful, and on-time delivery of construction projects. This role oversees multiple projects simultaneously and is accountable for project profitability, client satisfaction, and overall project performance.

Working closely with the Director of Projects, Project Managers, Director of Operations, Construction Manager, Quality Manager, HSSE Manager, Fleet Manager, and Field Supervisors, the Senior Project Manager ensures client expectations are met or exceeded while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Education

Professional Engineer, Registered Technologist, or Technical Trade Certification.
PMI designation preferred.
P.Eng. designation considered an asset.

Experience

15+ years of project management experience.
10+ years managing construction projects.
10+ years in a leadership or management role.
Extensive experience managing small to mid-sized projects.
Strong background in high-voltage construction projects.
Experience developing and improving systems, processes, and procedures to support growth.

Skills

Advanced project management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, estimating, and financial reporting.
Strong planning, organization, and change management capabilities.
Understanding of procurement and purchasing processes.
Knowledge of engineering design and project development processes.
Ability to resolve complex issues efficiently and effectively.
Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Project.
Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities.
Ability to analyze challenges and develop practical business solutions.

Combination of office and field work.
Extended hours may be required during peak project periods.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Duties

Project Management

Define project scope, budget, and objectives in collaboration with senior management.
Develop detailed project execution plans and schedules.
Identify and allocate required resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials.
Develop project forecasts that meet or exceed targeted margins.
Review and update project schedules as required.
Establish project success measures and lead lessons learned reviews.

Project Staffing

Develop project staffing plans in collaboration with the Director of Projects, Project Management Team, and Construction Manager.
Ensure labour hours are accurately tracked and overtime approvals are maintained.
Ensure project teams and stakeholders are prepared for project launch.

Project Execution

Deliver projects that meet or exceed budget and margin targets.
Lead day-to-day project execution alongside Project Managers, Field Supervisors, and the Construction Manager.
Procure subcontractors, materials, and services in accordance with approved project requirements.
Review and manage contractual obligations and commitments.
Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions as needed.
Ensure quality standards are maintained and client expectations are achieved.
Escalate significant project risks and issues when required.

Project Control

Prepare project reports for management.
Monitor and approve project expenditures.
Track cash flow forecasts, actuals, and variances.
Ensure scope changes are documented, approved, and incorporated into project forecasts.
Prepare project financial reports and supporting documentation.
Review and submit accurate project invoices and revenue accruals.
Verify quantities, labour, materials, and change orders to support accurate billing.
Monitor billing milestones, retainage, and contract compliance to ensure timely invoicing.
Participate in tactical, strategic, and project-specific meetings.

Human Resources

Contribute to job descriptions and performance evaluations.
Support workforce planning and future staffing requirements with senior leadership.

Leadership

Lead conflict resolution efforts with employees, managers, clients, and stakeholders.
Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with project team members.
Participate in project handoffs, kick-offs, client meetings, and project reviews.
Supervise, mentor, train, and support project teams across multiple projects.
Foster collaboration and creative problem-solving within project teams.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain strong client relationships that support repeat business.
