As we aim to accelerate growth in Canada, we are actively seeking a Financial Controller to support our growth as part of our National team, partnering with our Chief Financial Officer.
Position Summary:
The National Financial Controller is responsible for leading the Company's accounting, financial reporting, financial governance, internal controls, and Shared Services functions. The role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information, compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements, and consistency of financial processes across all business locations.
As a key member of the finance leadership team, the National Financial Controller supports sound decision-making through strong financial stewardship, effective risk management, operational excellence, and continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Accounting:
· Lead the national accounting and financial reporting functions.
· Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
· Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and management reports.
· Oversee general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and balance sheet integrity.
· Lead the Company's fixed asset accounting function, including: IFRS 16 management, asset capitalization, depreciation, disposals, physical asset verification, and fixed asset register management.
· Manage and report the Group's monthly statutory financial statements.
· Ensure appropriate accounting treatment and financial control over capital projects, leasehold improvements, and major equipment investments.
Shared Services Leadership:
· Provide leadership and oversight of the Shared Services Centre, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing, and Payroll.
· Establish service levels, performance metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency and service quality.
· Standardize financial processes, controls, and procedures across all business locations.
· Drive automation, process optimization, and scalability within transactional finance operations.
· Ensure timely and accurate processing of supplier payments, customer invoicing, collections, and payroll activities.
Governance, Compliance & Controls:
· Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax requirements, and regulatory obligations.
· Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
· Establish and maintain controls over capital expenditures and fixed asset management, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and capitalization requirements.
· Identify and mitigate financial, operational, and compliance risks.
Cash Flow and Working Capital:
· Monitor and improve key working capital metrics, including Days Sales Outstanding (DSO), Days Payable Outstanding (DPO), and cash conversion performance.
· Partner with internal stakeholders to accelerate collections, reduce billing disputes, and optimize payment practices.
Audit and Assurance:
· Lead all external audit activities, including planning, coordination, execution, and resolution of audit findings.
· Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities.
· Coordinate internal audit reviews and ensure timely remediation of identified control deficiencies.
· Ensure audit readiness through the maintenance of robust documentation, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
· Oversee periodic reviews of financial controls, accounting processes, inventory controls, and fixed asset controls.
· Develop and monitor corrective action plans to address audit observations and strengthen the control environment.
· Support the CFO in assessing enterprise risks and maintaining an effective financial governance framework.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
· CPA designation required (or equivalent international designation).
· 5–10 years of progressive accounting leadership experience.
· Experience managing multi-location financial operations.
· Supply chain, logistics, transportation, warehousing, or distribution industry experience is considered an asset.
· Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, taxation, and regulatory compliance.
· Advanced ERP and financial systems experience.
Base Salary: $105-125,000/annum
Bonus: Up to 15%
