Job Description
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the integrity of payroll accounting and related balance sheet accounts across the North American organization including Intercompany balances. The near-term priority is to stabilize and improve the accuracy of automated Workday-to-JDE payroll entries, strengthen payroll clearing and reconciliation processes, and resolve recurring posting issues. The role also prepares approximately 15 recurring U.S. and Canadian sales/use tax returns and owns the related accounting and reconciliations.

Job Responsibilities
- Own payroll accounting and related reconciliations for approximately 20 North American sites.
- Review and validate automated Workday-to-JDE payroll journal entries for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate legal-entity and account coding.
- Lead the short-term stabilization of the Workday-to-JDE payroll accounting process by identifying root causes of posting inaccuracies and implementing sustainable corrections.
- Own payroll clearing accounts, including reconciliation of Workday payroll entries to cash activity and timely investigation and resolution of outstanding differences.
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Partner with Payroll, HR, Treasury, site finance, and Accounting to resolve payroll accounting issues and improve end-to-end controls.
- Prepare approximately 15 recurring U.S. and Canadian sales/use tax returns and supporting schedules.
- Own the accounting for sales/use taxes, including accruals, remittances, reconciliations, and investigation of variances.
- Maintain clear supporting documentation and ensure recurring processes are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities and provide schedules and explanations for internal and external audit requests.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate recurring payroll and indirect tax accounting processes.
- Perform intercompany balance reconciliations monthly and full transactional reconciliations quarterly.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation or progress toward a CPA is an asset.
- Approximately 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a multi-site or manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of payroll accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, clearing accounts, and month-end close.
- Experience with indirect tax or sales/use tax compliance is preferred; ability to learn recurring filing requirements is essential.
- Experience with Workday, JDE, or comparable ERP/payroll systems is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to trace system-generated entries through to underlying payroll and cash activity.
- Demonstrated ability to work across functions and resolve issues with appropriate urgency and follow-through.
- Strong Excel skills and a continuous-improvement mindset.
