Who we need

Reporting to the Senior Director of Growth Marketing, we are hiring a Business Development Representative (BDR) to join our team. As our new Business Development Representative, you will engage inbound and outbound prospects, qualify opportunities through thoughtful discovery, and connect prospective customers with the right Account Executive. Working closely with Marketing and Sales, you will play a key role in creating a seamless experience from first engagement through to the sales process while helping build a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities.

This is a full-time, hybrid opportunity working Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in our downtown Toronto office. Our headquarters are located within minutes of St. Andrew and Union subway stations.

What's in it for you

A broader sales foundation. This is more than a traditional outbound prospecting role. You will develop experience across both inbound lead qualification and outbound business development, learning how to identify opportunities, run discovery conversations, and build relationships that move prospective customers through the sales journey. Working at the intersection of Marketing and Sales, you will gain a well-rounded understanding of how demand generation and revenue growth come together.

Ownership and impact. You will be part of a team that plays a direct role in driving new business. As one of the first points of contact for prospective customers, your ability to ask thoughtful questions, qualify opportunities, and create meaningful conversations will influence pipeline growth and help shape how we engage future customers. As the team continues to evolve, you will have the opportunity to contribute ideas that improve processes, messaging, and lead qualification.

Growth and development. We are building a centralized Revenue Growth function designed to scale with the business, creating opportunities to grow your skills alongside it. Whether you are building on existing business development experience or taking the next step in your sales career, you will work closely with experienced Marketing and Sales leaders, receive ongoing coaching, and gain exposure to modern sales tools, processes, and strategies in a collaborative, product-led environment.

How you will make an impact:

Engage and qualify prospective customers. You will be the first point of contact for inbound leads, responding quickly and thoughtfully to understand their business, goals, and readiness to buy. Through discovery conversations, you will assess each opportunity and connect qualified prospects with the appropriate Account Executive, ensuring a seamless transition into the sales process.
Generate new business opportunities. You will support outbound prospecting initiatives by engaging targeted accounts across email, LinkedIn, and phone. Working from structured campaigns and segmented prospect lists, you will build relationships with prospective customers, identify opportunities, and book qualified meetings for the Sales team.
Maintain an organized and efficient pipeline. You will keep Salesforce and other sales tools up to date, accurately tracking prospect activity, conversations, and outcomes. You will manage a high volume of leads while meeting service level expectations and ensuring no opportunities are missed.
Contribute to a growing Revenue Growth function. Working closely with Marketing, Sales, and your fellow BDRs, you will share insights on lead quality, messaging, and prospect feedback to help refine qualification criteria, outreach strategies, and the overall customer journey. As the team evolves, you will have the opportunity to contribute ideas that improve how we engage future customers and scale the function.

What you bring:

The business development experience. You have experience in a business development, inside sales, or customer-facing role where you engaged prospective customers, qualified opportunities, and built relationships through phone, email, and other outreach channels. Experience in SaaS, AdTech, or MarTech is an asset, but not a requirement.
The communication skills. You are confident starting conversations, asking thoughtful questions, and listening to understand a prospect's needs. You can communicate clearly and professionally, adapting your approach across email, LinkedIn, phone, and virtual conversations.
The technical aptitude. You are comfortable working with CRM and sales engagement tools and can quickly learn new systems and technologies. Whether you have used Salesforce, Salesloft, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, or similar platforms, you understand how technology supports an organized and effective sales process.
The curiosity and drive. You are motivated to learn, open to feedback, and continuously improve your approach. You enjoy collaborating with others, take ownership of your work, and thrive in an environment where coaching, experimentation, and continuous improvement are part of the culture.

Compensation

At illumin, we believe compensation should be transparent, fair, and reflective of both experience and impact. The base salary range for this role is $55,000 - $75,000 plus bonus.

Compensation is determined based on skills, experience, and the scope and complexity of the role. We value open conversations about compensation and are happy to discuss our approach at any stage of the hiring process.
