Original job description

We're hiring a Head of YouTube to lead Richard Yu's channels and creative team. Richard teaches people how to build businesses selling digital and physical products through "AI Arbitrage"

The challenge

Our immediate goal is to grow the business channel to 200,000+ subscribers in six months and bring average views per video above 100,000. These are aggressive goals. We want someone excited by that challenge, with a clear approach to choosing what to make, testing ideas and getting good videos out consistently.

You'll grow the top of the funnel by reaching new viewers who fit our audience. You'll also plan content for viewers who are getting to know Richard, learning about our offers and deciding whether to buy. Ultimately, we want this channel to grow the business, so views and subscribers need to translate into an audience we can serve.

You'll be responsible for what we make, why we make it, how we package and produce it, and whether it worked. You'll work directly with Richard and the leadership team to set direction, goals and KPI's and lead, hire and manage a creative team underneath.

This is a senior creative strategist and operator role. You will write first-person, long-form scripts yourself, as well as review and improve other writers' work. You should be equally comfortable setting channel direction, giving specific feedback and getting videos published.

What you'll own

Strategy and ideation: own the channel's growth goals, metrics and KPIs. Turn them into a clear plan for topics, formats and ideas, based on what our audience cares about and what we can learn from videos that perform well above their channel's usual results. Plan videos that bring in new viewers, build trust and help the right people take the next step.
Testing and learning: build structured tests with a clear hypothesis, a useful comparison and defined success measures. Decide which tests are worth running, make sense of the results and apply what you learn to the next videos.
Packaging: titles, thumbnail concepts and briefs, A/B tests, and repackaging decisions informed by CTR, retention and traffic sources.
Scripting: write full scripts when needed, and edit and quality-check every script before Richard films it. Build strong hooks, story structure, pacing, curiosity and payoffs that keep people watching. Deliver the title's promise in a natural voice, with concrete examples and verified claims.
Production: give editors specific feedback from the first cut, set clear standards and make sure each video meets them.
Analytics: review what worked, what didn't and what to change next. Track subscriber growth, views and audience quality alongside the channel's contribution to leads and sales, working with the wider marketing team. Be clear about which results we can attribute to YouTube and where we’re still making assumptions.
Team: hire, onboard and manage editors, designers and writers. Coach people to improve and write procedures and checklists that help the team make good decisions independently.

Who will do well here

You have a deep passion for YouTube (storytelling and psychology), and an understanding of channel growth. You can explain why a topic, format, title, thumbnail or script works: what earns the click, what keeps someone watching and what makes them return. You can turn that understanding into work that performs.

You are excited about taking on ambitious goals and being responsible for the results. You track progress honestly, work out what's holding us back and come with ideas for fixing it. You learn quickly, ask for feedback and change your approach when the evidence calls for it.

Strong business judgment, an understanding of marketing funnels and experience in Infopreneurship, online education or Edutech are major advantages. We’ll weigh that experience heavily. We’ll also consider an exceptional YouTube leader who can learn our audience, offers and funnel quickly.

This is a full-time role for someone who wants to focus on one business and take responsibility for both the creative work and the team.

Hiring process

Application, Zoom call, paid test project, final interview, offer. For your application, share existing work you are allowed to share; no new script or channel audit is required at this stage.

How to apply

Review Richard’s business YouTube channel and browse the other channels/accounts linked there for context. Share a 3–5 minute Loom covering:

Your background and motivation: Briefly introduce yourself, your role on the YouTube channels you’ve worked on and the results you’re most proud of. What excites you about this opportunity, and why do you want this particular role working with Richard Yu?

Your growth philosophy: How do you approach growing a business YouTube channel like ours? Which metrics matter most, and why?

Your read on our channel and your first 30 days: What are we doing well, and what most needs to improve to reach 200k+ subscribers in six months and average over 100k views per video? Briefly explain your reasoning and what you would focus on in your first 30 days. Tell us what you can judge from the public channel and what you’d need to learn from our analytics or team. One or two meaningful observations are enough.

Your leadership: What creative teams have you led? Share one brief example of a difficult leadership decision, how you handled it and what happened.

Keep it conversational and focus on what matters most. You don’t need slides, a detailed audit or a strategy deck. We want to understand you, your judgment and how you work. Please check that your Loom link is accessible.

- - - - Deep passion for YouTube and demonstrated understanding of storytelling and channel growth. Show us published long-form work and explain what you contributed.
Strong creative judgment across topics, formats, ideation, titles and thumbnails. You can explain why people click, keep watching and return.
Deep understanding of a winning script: hooks, narrative structure, pacing, curiosity, clear explanations and satisfying payoffs. Ability and willingness to write complete first-person, talking-head scripts and improve another writer's work.
A structured approach to testing: clear hypotheses, useful comparisons, defined success measures and sound interpretation of results.
Ownership of goals, metrics and KPIs. Strong command of CTR, average view duration, retention graphs, traffic sources and channel growth metrics, with examples of how you used them to make decisions.
Experience managing editors and/or designers, setting clear standards, giving specific feedback and helping people improve.
You learn quickly, ask good questions and take direct feedback well. You can get up to speed on a new audience, subject and business model.
Strong business judgment and experience with marketing funnels, infopreneurship, online education or edusoftware are highly valued. A record of connecting content to leads or sales is a strong advantage. These are not prerequisites for an exceptional YouTube candidate who can learn this side quickly.
Fluent spoken and written English is essential. You must be able to write natural, compelling English scripts and communicate clearly with Richard and the team.
Confidence using without over-reliance on AI tools, particularly Claude/Codex. You still take responsibility for the voice, accuracy and claims in the finished work.
Full-time availability and at least 4 hours of overlap with US Eastern working hours.
Remote: we welcome candidates across the United States, Canada, the UK, Europe, Mexico, Central America and South America, including Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Brazil, Panama, Colombia, Argentina and Costa Rica. Exceptional candidates elsewhere are also welcome. What matters is strong YouTube judgment, fluent English and reliable overlap with US Eastern working hours.

- A meaningful challenge. Help grow a brand with audacious goals, including taking our business channel to 200k+ subscribers in six months and averaging over 100k views per video. Your work will directly shape how we reach people, earn their trust and grow the business.
- Real ownership and influence. We value input from everyone, and few things are off-limits to thoughtful questioning. Bring your perspective, question assumptions and propose better approaches. We listen to good reasoning and are willing to change direction when the evidence supports it. Your ideas and what you learn through testing can influence the broader business.
- A team invested in your growth. We want this to be one of the biggest personal and professional growth experiences of your life. You’ll work directly with Richard and the rest of the leadership team, get honest feedback and take on challenges that stretch your thinking, creative judgment and leadership. We set high standards, and we’re here to help you reach them.
- $75,000–$150,000 USD annually plus performance bonuses for exceptional results, in a fully remote, full-time role with reliable overlap with US Eastern working hours.
