Our client is seeking a hands-on
Labour & Employee Relations Specialist to join their Edmonton, Alberta team. This newly created role offers the opportunity to become a key resource for field leaders across Western Canada, providing support with employee relations, labour relations, investigations, grievances, and collective agreement interpretation. You will initially be an individual contributor, with the potential to grow into a leadership role as the function develops.

About The Opportunity
This is a newly created position within the human resources team, designed to provide dedicated Labour and Employee Relations support to field operations. Reporting to the HR Director, you will work closely with field supervisors, construction managers, and operational leaders to provide practical advice and resolve employee and labour relations matters.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys working directly with operational teams, is comfortable handling sensitive employee issues, and can confidently provide guidance in a fast-moving project environment.
About The Position
- Act as the primary advisor to field leaders on employee and labour relations matters.
- Provide guidance on performance management, disciplinary issues, employee concerns, and workplace conflicts.
- Conduct investigations and resolve complex employee relations issues.
- Interpret and apply CLAC collective agreements, pre-job agreements, site documentation, and project requirements.
- Manage grievances and support pre-job and collective bargaining activities.
- Build strong relationships with field supervisors, construction managers, CLAC representatives, and other labour stakeholders.
- Support pay issues, rate audits, employee correspondence, and other labour-related administration.
- Gather and analyze labour data, including market rates and labour costing information.
- Support workforce planning and labour strategies across construction projects.
- Travel to project sites throughout Western Canada as required.
- Provide occasional evening or weekend support when urgent project-site matters arise.
The Requirements
- 4+ years of progressive HR experience, including Labour Relations.
- Direct experience working in a CLAC unionized environment is mandatory.
- Degree or Diploma in Human Resources.
- Experience with grievances, investigations, collective agreement interpretation, and employee relations.
- Experience supporting employees and leaders within an industrial construction or project environment is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of collective bargaining and labour relations practices.
- Strong negotiation, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and limited information.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Comfortable working independently and being the first point of contact for field-based employee and labour relations issues.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across Western Canada.
- Flexibility to provide support outside regular hours when required.
Compensation
- Annual salary range is$120,000–$140,000, based on experience
