Imperial Brady Canada, a leading national distributor, is seeking a dynamic finance leader to oversee the Company’s accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and control functions. This role is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate financial, statutory, and tax reporting of Imperial Brady Canada in accordance with GAAP, applicable tax regulations, and Company policies.
The Director, Finance will provide leadership to the Canadian Finance organization, oversee financial reporting, close, and compliance processes, manage external and statutory audits, support acquisition integration activities, and drive continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls. The role serves as a key advisor to finance and operational leadership, ensuring the integrity of financial information and supporting the Company’s growth objectives across Canada.
Responsibilities:
Staff Management
- Oversight of all functions related to Accounting and Finance
- Develop and mentor finance personnel through training on emerging accounting trends, new Company policies, and technical accounting matters.
- Establish strategic department goals and objectives aligned with organizational priorities.
Technical Accounting
- Ensure compliance with US and Canadian GAAP accounting and reporting requirements.
- Lead the evaluation and implementation of new accounting standards and reporting requirements.
- Oversee accounting for acquisitions, including purchase accounting, opening balance sheet validation, and integration activities.
- Provide technical accounting guidance on complex and non-routine transactions.
- Manage external and statutory audits.
- Support post-acquisition integration activities, including accounting, mapping, and ERP integration.
Financial Reporting
- Ensure compliance with country-specific statutory requirements.
- Oversee the management, consolidation, and reporting of accounting and financial activities.
- Direct and oversee the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Review monthly financial results and variance analyses, providing insights to senior management.
- Ensure balance sheet integrity through oversight of account reconciliations and review processes.
- Review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by the accounting team.
- Support external reporting to governmental agencies.
Corporate Policies, Procedures, and Internal Accounting Controls
- Document and maintain policies related to the financial reporting process.
- Identify control deficiencies, recommend improvements, and monitor remediation activities.
- Implement consistent accounting methodologies and best practices where appropriate.
- Support enterprise risk management and compliance initiatives.
Financial Management and Leadership
- Lead special projects and initiatives in partnership with Finance leadership.
- Conduct reviews of entity-level accounting methodologies and processes.
- Perform additional special analyses and projects as required by the VP of Finance.
- Partner with operational leadership to support business performance and decision-making.
- Drive process improvement, automation, and finance transformation initiatives.
- Support financial system enhancements, integrations, and process optimization projects.
- Travel to Company locations as required.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- CPA designation required.
- In-depth knowledge of technical accounting research.
- Experience supporting financial systems implementations, conversions, or integrations preferred.
- Experience leading finance teams across multiple entities and jurisdictions.
- Undergraduate degree from an accredited College/University required and Accounting major preferred.
- Master’s degree in accounting or related area is preferred.
- Establishes or recommends major strategic initiatives based on technical accounting guidance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French with the ability to work effectively across all organizational levels.
- Manufacturing and/or distribution industry experience preferred.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively manage internal and external auditor requests.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and drive results.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and talent development capabilities.
- Ability to translate financial insights into actionable recommendations.
- Proven ability to lead change and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Positive and professional demeanor.
- Advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word).
Management Duties: In accordance with applicable Company policies/procedures and Federal/Provincial laws, may perform the following supervisory responsibilities: Interviewing, hiring, orienting, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
