Engineering Manager - Research and Development, Machine Design and Development

Infinity Testing Solutions Inc. - 2370 Meadowvale Blvd, Mississauga, ON, L5N 0H1 Canada

Full-time | In person | Base salary: CAD $120,000-$140,000 per year

Salary within the range will reflect relevant technical expertise and management experience.

The Opportunity

Lead the engineering department at Infinity Testing Solutions Inc. (ITS), with a primary focus on research and development (R&D), custom machine design and equipment development. You will guide projects from technical research and concept development through detailed design, prototyping, integration, validation and commissioning for client applications and internal laboratory improvements.

We are an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited engineering testing laboratory providing pressure, structural, vibration and environmental testing, along with custom machine design and development. Our work supports production testing and R&D across aerospace, nuclear, defence, semiconductor and other industrial sectors.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager who combines mechanical engineering judgment, advanced LabVIEW development and controls knowledge with the ability to coach engineers and technologists. Working closely with our CEO and VP of Operations, you will lead R&D and machine development projects.

Why Join ITS

· Stay technically involved. Investigate new concepts, design custom machines and develop automated systems, with direct involvement from early research and prototyping through commissioning.

· Have a visible influence. Lead a close-knit team, contribute directly to technical decisions and help shape how we design, document and deliver engineering work.

· Enjoy a flexible, relaxed work environment. We value trust, approachable leadership and practical flexibility around personal needs, balanced with project commitments and the in-person requirements of laboratory work.

Our Culture

Our core values guide how we work together and how we expect our managers to lead:

·   Opinions Matter. We welcome ideas, questions and concerns, and listen without judgment.

·   Respect Everything and Everyone. We treat colleagues, clients and equipment with care.

·   Honest and Clear Communication. We speak openly, raise concerns early and work through problems constructively.

·   Family. We bring care, support and fun to work, while respecting life and responsibilities outside work.

·   Self-Accountability. We take ownership of commitments and pride in the quality of our work.

·   Continuous Improvement. We make time to learn, share knowledge and improve how we work.

What You Will Lead

Engineering Team Development

· Lead the engineering team delivering R&D and machine design projects through clear priorities, practical delegation, regular feedback and performance reviews. Help people develop the skills to meet expectations.

· Provide ongoing technical training and mentoring. Document engineering knowledge, develop individual learning plans and build the team's ability to solve problems independently.

· Set R&D and machine development priorities with the CEO and VP of Operations. Involve Quality in relevant project requirements.

Research and Machine Development

· Lead technical research, feasibility studies and concept development for custom machines, test systems and new equipment. Evaluate design options and use prototypes or experiments to resolve technical uncertainties.

· Develop, maintain and troubleshoot LabVIEW applications for machine control, automation, data acquisition and analysis. Guide software architecture, documentation and maintainability.

· Apply RMC motion controls and integrate mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, sensors and electrical controls into custom machinery and automated test equipment.

· Lead detailed mechanical design and review CAD models, drawings, calculations and component selections. Consider manufacturability, serviceability and safety throughout development.

· Guide fabrication and assembly, system integration, validation and commissioning

· Use development results to refine designs and document equipment performance against requirements.

Project Delivery and Quality

· Manage R&D and machine development scope, schedules, budgets and resources. Set design and validation milestones, address technical risks early and communicate progress to colleagues and clients.

· Maintain safe engineering practices, design reviews and traceable development records. Work with Quality to meet client specifications and applicable standards.

· Support technical proposals and client discussions by translating requirements into practical engineering solutions and realistic estimates.

· Improve design and development workflows and help leadership assess new machine, automation and product opportunities. Develop reusable designs and technical documentation that support future projects.

What Success Looks Like In Your First Six Months

Through structured knowledge transfer with the CEO and team, you will learn our designs, controls and development methods, then progressively assume leadership of the engineering department and technical decisions on R&D and machine development projects within agreed authority.

Success will show in clear development plans, progress through agreed design and validation milestones, and a team receiving regular coaching. You will deliver agreed machine, prototype or automation improvements with documented performance, while maintaining safety, quality and budget discipline.

What You Bring

·   Relevant engineering experience. At least 5 years of engineering experience in R&D, custom machine design and development, automation, equipment development or a closely related field; 7 or more         years is preferred.

·   People management experience. At least 3 years managing engineering or technical staff, including work allocation, coaching and performance management; 5 or more years is preferred. This experience may form part of your overall engineering experience.

·   Education and professional designation. A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline, and a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licence in Ontario.

·   Advanced LabVIEW capability. Demonstrated experience developing custom applications from the ground up for data acquisition, test automation and control, as well as diagnosing and improving existing applications.

·   Controls and system integration. Practical experience programming and troubleshooting RMC motion controls, with working knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, sensors and control schematics.

·   Mechanical design expertise. Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and proficiency with Alibre Design or SOLIDWORKS, supported by experience with engineering calculations, drawings, materials and stress/strain analysis.

·   Development and validation experience. Practical experience taking machinery or equipment from concept through detailed design, build, troubleshooting and performance validation, using analysis and testing to guide design decisions.

·   Sound judgment and clear communication. A record of independently researching technical problems, explaining decisions, managing project commitments and building constructive relationships with clients and colleagues.

Additional Experience We Value

· Experience designing equipment or supporting pressure, structural, vibration or environmental testing for production and R&D applications.

· Experience in an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory or another engineering environment with rigorous quality and traceability requirements.

· LabVIEW certification such as Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) or Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA).

· Finite element analysis using SOLIDWORKS Simulation, Ansys or comparable tools, and experience with fatigue or dynamic loading.

· Engineering work for aerospace, nuclear, defence, semiconductor or other demanding industrial applications.

How to Apply

Apply with your resume and a brief introduction describing a team you have managed and an R&D or machine development project you helped take from concept to a working system. Highlight your design, LabVIEW and RMC contributions and the result. Please exclude confidential information belonging to clients or previous employers.

Infinity Testing Solutions Inc. welcomes applications from qualified candidates of all backgrounds. Accommodation is available on request throughout the recruitment process.
