Senior Data Scientist – Azure & Databricks
Location: Toronto/Markham, ON – Hybrid, 3 days onsite
Duration: 6 months, with potential extension/conversion
Hours: 37.5 hours/week
Rate: $85–$105/hr, with some flexibility for exceptional candidates
Role Overview
Seeking a Senior Data Scientist to support advanced analytics, predictive modelling and data science initiatives within a large financial services environment. The role will use statistical and machine learning techniques to develop models, analyze large datasets and deliver data-driven solutions supporting risk monitoring and operational efficiencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain predictive and machine learning models.
- Perform complex data exploration, analysis and statistical modelling.
- Develop scalable analytics solutions using Python, PySpark, Databricks, Azure and SQL.
- Build and optimize models supporting monitoring, customer behaviour and risk scoring.
- Conduct model performance analysis, tuning and ongoing monitoring.
- Identify patterns, trends and risk indicators across large datasets.
- Partner with business and technology teams to identify opportunities for data-driven improvements.
- Develop analytical queries and support implementation of new or enhanced analytics solutions.
- Maintain model and analytical documentation to support governance, audit and regulatory requirements.
- Independently lead complex analytical deliverables from exploration through implementation.
Must-Have Qualifications
- 8+ years of Data Science, Data Engineering or advanced analytics experience.
- Extensive experience building predictive models using machine learning techniques.
- Expert-level Python and PySpark.
- Strong hands-on Azure and Databricks experience.
- Advanced SQL skills.
- Strong data exploration, manipulation and analytical capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to apply statistical techniques and data-mining methods to complex business problems.
- Experience working with large-scale data and production analytics environments.
- Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to independently own complex analytical deliverables.
Nice-to-Have
- Banking or financial services experience.
- AML / Financial Crime analytics experience, particularly transaction monitoring.
- Databricks, programming or statistics certifications.
- Java and/or Scala.
- Tableau.
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline.
