Senior Mobile Developer / Mobile Technical Lead

The ideal candidate is a seasoned mobile engineer who remains highly hands-on while operating as a technical leader.
You should be equally comfortable writing production code, reviewing architecture, solving complex technical problems, and influencing engineering decisions. Strong candidates will bring deep experience across iOS, Android, Kotlin, and KMP, along with the communication skills required to work across multiple technical and business teams.
This role would suit someone who enjoys building sophisticated mobile products while also helping establish the technical standards, architecture, and development practices that will support the platform over the long term.
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Mobile Developer / Technical Lead to join a high-profile digital transformation initiative focused on creating a modern mobile experience for investment and advisory services.
This is a highly hands-on senior position for an experienced mobile engineer with strong expertise across iOS and Android, particularly Kotlin and Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP).
In addition to developing software, this individual will contribute to technical direction, application architecture, engineering standards, and the evolution of the organization's mobile technology strategy.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating at both the hands-on development and technical leadership levels, collaborating with senior architects, product teams, designers, analysts, and engineering groups.
There may be an opportunity for the successful contractor to transition into a permanent senior leadership position in the future. Candidates should therefore be open to a potential full-time opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and enhance scalable mobile applications for a large enterprise digital platform.
- Contribute to mobile development across both Android and iOS environments.
- Develop reusable functionality and shared components using Kotlin Multiplatform.
- Establish and promote sound mobile architecture, coding standards, design patterns, and engineering practices.
- Participate in technical architecture and solution design sessions.
- Work closely with architects, product owners, business analysts, UX/UI specialists, and other engineering teams.
- Help define frameworks and reusable components that can support future mobile development initiatives.
- Evaluate technical approaches and provide recommendations on key mobile technology decisions.
- Perform code reviews and help maintain high standards for code quality, maintainability, and scalability.
- Investigate and resolve complex application, integration, performance, and production issues.
- Ensure mobile solutions meet enterprise requirements relating to security, reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to other developers.
- Contribute to longer-term planning and modernization of the organization's mobile technology ecosystem.
Required Qualifications
- Significant experience developing production-grade mobile applications in an enterprise environment.
- Strong professional experience with iOS development.
- Strong professional experience with Android development.
- Advanced hands-on experience with Kotlin.
- Practical development experience using Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP).
- Strong understanding of mobile application architecture and contemporary design patterns.
- Experience delivering complex, customer-facing mobile applications.
- Strong understanding of APIs, middleware, integrations, and mobile-to-backend communication.
- Experience working within large-scale or complex technology organizations.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with senior technical and business stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience providing technical direction, mentoring developers, or leading engineering initiatives.
- Willingness to consider a permanent position should an opportunity become available.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience within banking, financial services, wealth management, investment, or another regulated industry.
- Experience supporting direct investing, brokerage, trading, or advisory platforms.
- Background developing customer-facing financial applications.
- Experience modernizing or rebuilding large-scale mobile applications.
- Knowledge of mobile security, authentication, authorization, and secure application development.
- Experience with enterprise mobile security standards and regulated technology environments.
- Previous experience as a Mobile Technical Lead, Lead Developer, Mobile Architect, or Engineering Lead.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical strategy and engineering direction.
- Previous people leadership experience or clear progression toward an engineering management role.
