We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical / Structural Design Engineer to support the design, analysis, and detailing of structural steel systems, mechanical assemblies, and custom-engineered products. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing 3D models in SolidWorks or Inventor, performing structural simulations and static analyses, preparing fabrication and assembly drawings, and supporting projects from concept through construction.
Position Location: Toronto, Ontario
Key Responsibilities
Design & 3D Modeling
- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
- Design structural steel frames, platforms, stairs, supports, equipment structures, and custom mechanical assemblies.
- Develop fabrication, shop, and assembly drawings with complete dimensions, weld details, and bill of materials (BOMs).
- Review project specifications, client requirements, and design criteria to develop practical engineering solutions.
- Design and check weldments for all components.
- Optimize designs for manufacturability, cost efficiency, and ease of installation.
Structural Analysis & Simulation
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and static structural analysis using SolidWorks or Inventor Simulation or equivalent software.
- Evaluate stresses, deflections, stability, and structural integrity of components and assemblies.
Construction & Civil Coordination
- Review civil and geotechnical information to ensure compatibility between structural designs and site requirement.
- Coordinate with design and PM teams, contractors, fabricators, and project stakeholders.
- Support installation plan/ assembly details and dismantling methods by providing technical guidance and resolving design-related issues.
Drawing & Documentation
- Prepare detailed fabrication, erection, and installation drawings.
- Maintain engineering documentation and revision control.
- Develop assembly procedures and installation details.
- Ensure drawings comply with applicable company standards and project requirements.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience
- Minimum 12 years of experience in mechanical, structural, or civil engineering design.
- Experience in structural steel design, industrial structures, equipment supports, or custom-engineered products.
- Experience preparing fabrication and shop drawings.
- Experience in civil construction, excavation, foundation systems, and site installation activities is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and/or Autodesk Inventor (Parts, Assemblies, and Drawings).
- Experience with SolidWorks Simulation or Inventor Simulation and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Strong understanding of:
- Structural steel design
- Static and dynamic loading analysis
- Stress and deflection calculations
- Welding and fabrication practices
- Mechanical design principles
- Familiarity with engineering standards such as:
- CSA Standards
- AISC
- ASME Codes and Standards
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and other engineering software is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with modular construction, industrial facilities, or heavy steel fabrication.
- Familiarity with excavation methods, shoring systems, retaining structures, and foundation design.
- Knowledge of construction sequencing and field installation practices.
- Experience working directly with fabricators and construction contractors.

Salary Range: $95,000 - $120,000 annually, based on experience, qualifications, and skills.
